MINING CLAIMS TOBE WORKED No, Siirehsin of Assessment Work to Be Authorized for 1920, Report { .: | (Special to The Tribune) WASHINGTON, Dec, 14.—Congress will not suspend for 1920 the assess- ment work requirements’ on mining claims. There is a possibility that en trymen may be allowed until June 30 next to do the 1920 work, but whether congress will act favorably on this postponement is still a thatter of con- siderable doubt. When the last resolution, waiving as- sessment work for 1919, was being dis. cussed, its proponents in the ho Promised if it was passed they wo not again ask for a waiver. Those wad are now urging relief for 1920 are ing met with this promise, and th is little hope for such a resolution. SHARE OF FUND TO BOOST PAY Resolution Passed by State Com- mittee Asks Half of Royalties Received Under the Leas- ing Bill At a meeting of the exetutive com- mittee of the State Teaghers’ associa. tion called at Cheyenne Saturday by A. A. Slade, superintendent’©f the Caspev Schools and president of the associa- tion, a resolution was passed asking the state legislature to appropriate to the schools of the state one half of the funds derived from the Federal oil lands under the leasing law. Under the leasing bill passed last year 37% per cent of the royalties from the oil remains in the state, the money to be divided by the legislature between public schools, good roads and other educational institutions such as the State university. The schools of the state receive sup- Port from the income on money derive-l from the sale of state school lands, this Interest being divided according to the School census in each ‘district. It is pointed out that most of this money goes to the cities because of their Jarger school enrollment, Country school districts in Wyoming are grew: ly impoverished and it is proposed that the money received from the federal fund be divided among the districts ac- cording to the number of teachers em- ployed, allowing about $300 a teac This would permit the raising of cova. | try teachers’ salarjes to a point which Mould maké ib possible to secure teaci- ers in districts where there are none at present.
