vn: de. Ds nes —, I. ALL-STATE ELEVEN TO BE CHOSEN W. S. Sopris, who writes sport yarns for the Sheridan Enterprise, has taken “severe occasion” to the claims of the Casper High School football team to the’state title this season. Mr. Sopris says this: “Caspers claim to the title, as founded on some of the press re- presentations, we severly take occasion to, are, we wouldssay, ludi- crous into consideration. “Sheridan made the attempt to meet the Oil City eleven on their own grounds even for expenses. Bickering nearly caused a loss of a holiday game here after Casper's flat refusal to every proposition. Why such an eleven should be recognized as a state title holder (or the 1920 season we cannot see. Their plaint that Sheridan has not met rep- resentative Wyoming elevens of any moment can be set aside. 1f£ Casper had wanted to it could have met Sheri- dan. We wonder why they did not.” Mr. Sopris is an earnest supporter) of Sheridan. That is obvious. But unfortunately for Sheridan the fact that the northern school met none of the stronger Wyoming elevens is the yery reason why it cannot be consid- ered even in the running as state tite contender, True enough Newcastle was defeated, 82 to 0, and Buffalo 32 to 7, but neither of these teams even com- pared with Cheyenne, Laramie or the University Preps, teams Casper met and defeated. No other Wyoming teams were play- ed, according to W. L. Wright, ath-| letic director at Sheridan, It was ur- fortunate that Casper and Sheridan could not get together. Probably neith- er coach was to blame but the fact re- mains that negotiations failed and the teams did not clash on the gridiron this fall. But for the sake of argument, nic- ture the Casper team defeated by Sheri- dan, Where would that have placed Sheridan? Hardly better than third place, we will say. Casper and Laramie would have tivd for the title although Casper might well claim the better record because os mie probably would not haye played Sheridan. Certainly Sheridan every item of negotiation between the two teams is taken never have claimed the championship because of a possible victory over the team with the best record in the state —Casper. Casper was awarded the state cham- Pionship this season because it won every game played against Wyoming high school teams with the exception of Laramie. Laramie was defeated so overwhelmingly later in the year that this one defeat was wiped out. Cas- per defeated Cheyenne 12 to 0, a teara which later lost to Laramie, 7 to 0. By its win over Laramie only the week before by four touchdowns, Cas- per easily stood head and shoulders above other teams in the state. Sheri- dan was not played. A snowstorm p! vented the scheduled game, the Sheri- dan team being stalled between here and the northern metropolis. Here is Casper’s record for the season and even the most consistent opponent can fig- ure out readily why the Natrona county high school team has been termed state champions for 1920: Laramie High School 17, Casper 0, at Laramie. University Preps 0, Laramie. bs Cheyenne 0, Casper 12, at Casper. Laramie High School 7, Casper 27, at Casper. Casper 60, at ALL-STATE FOOTBALL TE. READY MONDAY. SHERIDAN WANTS TO PLAY WYOMING TEAMS. *: W. L. Wright, director of athletics at the Sheridan high school, has writ ten this department saying that Sheri- dan high school desires football games next season with Casper, Cheyenne and Laramie. Coach Wright, who turnei out a team-at Sheridan this fall which held the fast Billings aggregation to its lowest Score, writes “we are réady to contract on any fair basis for thesa games.” Heavy expense and high r: Pullman fare prevented se school games this fall and ter rates are allowed, this undoubted. ly will prove a handicap again next season, perce Nreage eee NOTICE, Notice is hereby given that there will be a stockholders’ meeting of the Wyoming-Kentucky Petroléam Com- vanv held in the office of Mr. John B.
