BS SeoVnea 2rk eS whats wee CH PHM SAUNSSSEND 256552 S522" wus ead REFINING COMPANY ATHLETES TO NTERL FOR HONORS IN MARATHON Disigace Run Fathered by Tribune Excites Interest of Former Stars and Outside Entnes from Over Wyo- ming Expected; Laramie Man Enrolls Increased interest is daily bein: athletes in The Daily Tribune Marathon, to be run through the streets of the city Labor Day. Medals and cups have been ordered and will be on display within the next ten days.. Entry blanks will be available next week from The Daily Tribune office, from C. H. Reimerth, direc- tor of the Wyoming branch of the A. A. U., which has sanctioned the cross country race, and from the lead- ing sports headquarters of the city. The same rivalry which was meni- fest-in the July 4 t t between the Standard and Midwest -refinery teams is already cropping out in the coming marathon. The Standard prob- ably will haye the edge bechuse of its showing in the distance races’ last July 4. Both Patterson and Earl Dowler are fast men for the distance runs and undoubtedly will try their strength in the ‘Trihyne marathon. Patterson is a former Missouri Valley conference star and 1s a man to be feared in any distance event. Hal P. Riney,"who has been a leader in oosting clean sports among Mia- west Refining company athletes, ex pects to have a full team of five me: to-run Labor Day. The ability of the Midwest to get out such a large list | of capable athletes on July 4 shows the inte: being taken in amateur | athletics at the Midwest refinery. Mr. | Riney will coach the “distance team Jin | its work-outs ‘for the ‘Tribune miara-| thon. Then there is certain to be a good; list of individual stars. Dusty Miller, } who copped the mile run in the Trish- American meet July 4 with ease, hae announced his intention of running in the Tribune marathon, which means that all the other atztetes will have to “hump” some to wint Miller has the stride, wind, and interest in the race to make it interesting for the best of fthem in a distance: run. , ™ Jack Clowery, tho, will be the favor- ite of the Casper fans, if he has covered sufficiently from his injury received while playing baseball to make the race. Clowery holds many excellent Wyoming records for win- ning first place in middle ant distance events. Jack js also a speedy man in the dashes. If Clowery and ‘Miller, | and a third man, formerly an athletic club star, are able to compete, the Mul- lin club probably wil! make an effort to put a full team of five men in ihe field. Laramie has entered one of its best athletes, Billings, Mont,, has a man who is a winner and Casper friends are “attempting to persuade this Mon- tana athlete to enter the race, Sheridan is showing increased int>r- est in. the marathon and it would not be surprising to see an athlete entered from Cheyenne. The route of the four and a halt cross country run follows: “Start—In front of new Daily Trib- une building on East Second street. West on Second to Center. North on} Center to A street.
