APPEAR TONIGHT AT CHAUTAUQUA Martino Concert to Close Success- ful Five-Day Assembly Here; Six-Day Program for Next Season Miss Josephine Martino. New York prima aonna and Edison star, will be the final aitraction tonight of the five- day Ellison-White ¢hautauqua which has so delighted Casper people which has been most remarkably suc- cessful from every standpoint. That the Casper people are anxious for a similar Chautauqua next year was indicated: Saturday might when tickets to the amount of $1,033 were pledged for next season. More than $1,500 worth of tickets were sold this year, enough to secure the six-day Chautauqua which the company out, and which it will send to Casper next season. Although there will be an additional day of entertainment the season ticket price will remain $2.75 next year, Miss Bess Badley, the superintendent in charge here, explained. The Overseas orchestra and Mrs. D. Pirie Beyea gaye an_ entertainment; Saturday afternoon and evening which was decidedly reminiscent of the re- cent war. Mrs. Beyea was one of the first Red Cross nurses to go abroad in 1914 and her address of the afternoon was fill- ed with recitals of her experiences “over there.” 4 She paid high tribute to the Amer- fcan Legion of which she is a mem- ber dnd stated that she had heard of the post in Casper as being the finest in) the’ state, “Get back of your American Legion post,” was her plea. “Its members stand for the very highest all-American ideals.” After touching the hearts of her hearers with her stories of the bravery of the men with whom she had come in contact again and again im her hos- pital work, Mrs. Beyea urged that the people at home remember the war and what the boys endured and that they show their appreciation of the sacri- fice made by making America a bet- ter place jn which to live. Better health laws, community nurses, county nurses, enforcement of health regulations, and the backing up of the health officer were among tho things which she urged. The overseas orchestra, composed of| eight talented young women who not only play but sing, proved most popu- lar with the audiences both afternoon and evening. The stage appearance of the young Women was particularly pleasing, as in the afternoon they were costumed in gowns of pale green and for the eve- ning wore evening gowns in_shades of; pink and rose. A fender who also played the traps, gave a short history of the career of, the company abroad, As the “Vietory Girls” the eight gave concerts for more than a month in England’ before be- img sent to France.! They were -thén divided into two groups, half “being known as the “Victory Girls’ andithe other half as the ‘Western Four.” The program yesterday drew large crowds both for the afternoon and the evening. The Regniers who provided the aft- ernoon entertainment are clever en- tertainers with a variety of talents at their commands and they were re- ceived with enthusiasm. In the evening Dr. C. Price present- ed a travelogue of the far north when he gave his illustrated lecture on “Big Game Hunting in Alaska.” His pic: tures were marvelous in their detail and realism and his hearers forgot the warmth of the night as they were transported with Dr. Price to the home of the white bear, the fur hearing seal, and saw the speaker and his dog team traversing the snow fields of Amer- and! puts! tbe Caspet Daily Cribune Protege of Caruso Voice of Chautauqua Soprano Wins Praise of Musical Critics Everywhere | 0 It takes a voice out of the ordinary to win the approval of a musi thority like Enrico Caruso. This was revealed today when a survey was made of the rush of theater constructions, which disclosed that $25,000,000 worth of new amusement houses were under. way. Many of the new playhouses are wiping out old flats and dwellings ur- gently needed for homes, social wel- fare investigators declare, and as 4 result the housing shortage is becom- ing more acute. action, it is pointed out, may mean the saving of money as pensions commence from the date of filing claim.
