The Mullin club defeated the Wyoming Athletic club with ease in five innings, 9 to 5, and now has two victories and no defeats as its record for the season, The Midwest and Standard Refining company nines each have one victory to their credit and have not been de feated. The Merchants’ association team will play its first game this af- ternoon with the American Legion nine rting at 5:30 o'clock. The contest is to start promptly at this time whether the players are ‘on deck” or not The Mullin club took advantage of the misplays by the Wyoming Athletic oupled with five safe swats and ay the game in the first in- n ix runs counted and it was enough to win, Two or three clouts in the opening frame went for hits but with faster fielding they would have been put outs. Reimerth did fairly well on the mound until the middle of the third when Allenbaugh pasted one far into the outer gardens for a home run. Two! were on the paths at the time as a re- sult of walks. Reimerth retired in favor of Kamman who allowed only one hit in the two and a half innings he| hurled. Kamman fanned seven in the| brief period he’ was in the game an‘) had only a@ wounded Mullin club man to mar his record. The Wyoming Athletic club players looked bad in the field in the opening doning; but settled down considerabh that. The Mullin clib messed ss up a bit themselves in the tirst s and two healthy swats brought in four runs for the Wyoming Athletic club players, With two on,! \. M. Dus stowe Miller, who held down first for the| Mullin “club aggregation, stole three! times, At bat, Miller singled once, walked the next timed famed t final turn at the plate. He counted two runs. Allenbaugh also looked handy with’ the willow. Out of three trips, he got a single, and his homer which scored three. The Wyoming Athletic club anid the Northwestern railroad company nine are scheduled to battle in the game next Sunday afternoon, unless the Mid- west Refining company nine has a regularly scheduled game with some out of town team to be played here on that date. Ten years ago he was a poor kid in Harlem, a gang fighter, unafraid of knives and guns and clubs. Today he is 27 years old, wearing a world title and is in line to make a barrel of dough. Looking him over you can see he has the face of a eyes are as black as hi: hair, cheek bones premir truding and a nose of Hebraic cast, His parents are Italian and now reside in Harlem, where Johnny was born in a little house just a few doors from the modest home that first housed Willie Jackson. Johnny was christened Giovanna Panica. He is the second Italian to hold a world crown, Pete Herman, bantam champ, is the other. Johnny goes to bat like Babe Ruth —that is left-handed—and hits the same way. Around New York, where he started eight years ago, they knew him as a weak hitter. He went out of town and got a punch. Oddly enough, Mike O'Dowd won the championship in a Brooklyn ring in 1917 from Al McCoy, a southpaw hitter. Mike had no difficulty in | solving MeCoy’s awkward pose, but Jofinny’s was different. Being a ‘portsider, Wilson has a pe-| culiar style when in action, He is clever h his dukes, fast on his feet and can drop any opponent with whom he -can connect. His wallop is in his left, but there is power in his right. He resembles Lew Tendler, rt Philadelphia lightweight, an- outhpaw probably headed for a world title.
