THURSDAY MAY 6, 192¢ SOLDIER CASES TO BE DECIDED AT FIRST HAND Applications of Disabled Service Men to Be Taken Up By Fed- eral Agents in Three- Day Session Here Good news for ex-service men suffer- ing with disabilities which constitute vocational handicaps was received in Caspér today by the American Legion Post of the Red Cross and other agencies cooperating in the work of aiding former service men. Announcement was {made that on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, May 22, 23 and 24, any man who be- lieves himself entitled to re-training at the hands of the Federal Board for Vb-} cational Education may have his case decided and if he is eligible the man be placed in training at once by appearing in Casper on those days. Local people who received the an- nouncement declared it marked one of the most important steps taken by the Federal Board for Vocational Education in the handling of its ‘job of re-training soldiers, sailors, marines or nurses whoses disabilities increased in or trace- able to the service prevents thgm from competing successfully in their old em- ployment. It was also declared to be another long step toward the cutting of so-called “red-tape” which it has been charged hampers the work, of all gov- ernment bureaus. The coming of representaties of the Federal Board for Vocational Education to Casper on the days mentioned will it js hoped by those concerned reach the attention of every man who might have a claim against this department of the government and the visit of these rep- resentatives will mean for these men the following things: 1. That if he has not yet made appli- cation for vocational education such application will be made for him on the spot. Immediately he will be examined by a physician of the board and his case rated. Then the case will be decided by a Washington representative of the board and if the man is declared eligible ‘he will be placed in training immediate- 2. Those men who have made applica- tion for training but who yet have cer- tain papers to finish before their cases are completed may have these papers completed on the spot and their cases acted upon and decided, If they are found eligible they will be placed in- training immediately. “It is our purpose,” the announce- ment says, “‘to decide all cases possible while the representatives of the Board are in Casper. This will save time re- quired previously in sending ‘cases to the Denver office for rating, completion of papers, medical examination and de cision, We hope to be able to tell any e Caspet Daily Cribune and if it is to be given elsewhere fur- nish him with transportation to the place of’ training. These two documents are vitally necessary to the completion, of and decision on his ‘case. All men who wish to avail themselves of this opportunity are asked to get in touch with the American Legion Posts or with the Red Cross. As it is not known, members of the Board say, when it will be possible for another Case Board to visit this section every man is {urged to avail himself of the opportunity granted /him. COMPANY | REPORT 19 MADE ON HEALTH WORK BY LOCAL NURSE |Miss Elizabeth Bahen Makes Good Accounting of Service in Giy- ing Up County Possession lere Miss Elizabeth Bahen, public health nurse, tendered her resignation to the Red Cross chapter a month ago to take effect May 14, has prepared a most in- teresting report of the work which has been done since she took charge. Under the supervision of Dr. J. F. O'Donnell she has visited the grade schools daily and all children who have been absent 24 hours or more have been required to report to her for in- spection before being re-admitted. Be- |side this daily inspection, the report shows that each child has had a physi- ‘amination—special attention being uid to defects such as adenoids, teeth, tonsils, skin, vision and deformities. __The results of the examinations hav. Business, initiation and By order of the E. R. been filed’ in card index system, each Rob’t Cohen, Secretary. in her room. The health cards are sent with the other records when the pupil is transferred from one school to another. Under the system inaugurated by Dr. O'Donnell and Miss Bahen, defects discovered are reported to the health officer who notifies the parents of the children and advises them to consult their family physicians.. As a result many children who were handicapped by defect® are having them corrected and are being restored to normal. A portable dental outfit, purchased by the school board was put in opera- tion last week, and the dentists of the city have arranged for a clinic so that children whose parents are willing may have necessary dental work done free. This work is new here, but the pre- Wminary examinations having been made, next year should show gratify- ing results, It is planned to have the public health nurse employed to succeed Miss Bahen give more time to talks on hygeine, and personal cleanliness, and to home calls and other phases of the work, since the work has been placed on such an ex- cellent basis in the schools this year. The watchfulness of the Health de- partment and the daily inspections in the schools are believed to be largely responsible for the fact that the schools have not been closed a single day this year because of an epidemic of com- municable diseases. me! for be: Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks - There will be a regular session of this Lodge on Fri- day evening, May 7, at 8 o’clock at Odd Fellows Hall. entertainment.
