It seems high time that the state daddies should get together and give their state the chance to breathe the sporting atmosphere afforded sister states. Take Casper and Lusk for instance. Strangers by the thousands come to either seek their fortunes in oil or to send that pitiful letter home. Hun- dreds of these folks are all the way from the Atlantic seaboard where the swat of the boxing glove is as familiar as the lashing of the old Atlantic on the sandy shores, and in Wyoming they are deprived of this pleasure. In our estimation, the town of Casper—known to even the remote village of New York City as the coming oil center of the universe—would be one of the best little cities in the west for a championship bout. It would be better than Reno, Nevada, at the present time. What say the senators and representatives of old Wyoming? ‘As the result of the rich purses being offered for the Dempsey-Carpentier fight, unknown heavyweights are springing up over night. It is beginning to look like those days wher! a new white hope came out daily with the state ment that he was the man to defeat Jack Johnson and return the title to the white race. it seems as no one is taking this new crop of heavyweights very seriously. With the possible exception of Bob Martin, we can’t think of another new heavyweight who could even put up his dukes against the few real heavyweight stars of the country. This fellow Al Reich, called the Adonis of the ring, but However, was préss-agented from coast to coast, Roberts, a mediocre boxer, put him out for the count. The come-back of Frank Moran adds another to the heayyweight class of topnotchers, but we gre inclined to believe that after Moran meets Fulton, he will have to seek the tall timbers. The public hasn't seen enough of Young Bob Fitzsimmons to get a linc on him, while Captain Bob Roper hasn't made any too favorable an impression. The real king of modern heavyweights—Jack Johnson—is bull-fighting in Mexico, but, of course, he is eliminated from running so far as ever winning back the crown is concerned. BARNSTORMING TO OFFSET HIGH COST OF LIVING It begins to look as tho professional baseball players are going to do their utmost to combat the high cost of living this spring and summer.
