[LIVE NEWS OF WYOMING ARRESTS SLUMP WITH ORY Cheyenne Reports Reduction of 66 Percent in Police Court Activities . (Special to The Tribune.) CHEYENNE, Wyo., Jan. 6&—There were less than one-third as many arrests by the Cheyenne police during the last six months of 1919, the period follow- ing prohibition, as during the first six months of the year when the licensed sale of intoxicating liquor was permit- ted. During 1919, however, there were more arrests than during the preceding year despite the falling off in police ' business during the last half of 1919, | this fact being attributed to the im- moderate. use of intoxicants which took: | place during the dosing six months of the “wet” era. During 1919 the Cheyenne police made 2,441 arrests, compared with 2,412 dur- ing 1918. During the first half of 1919, when the saloons were open, there were 1,883 arrests, and during the second half of the year, after the saloons were closed. only 608. The greater number of arrests took place in May, June and July. May and June witnessed the “peak" of police business. In July there were many arrests as a result of the “bootlegging” immediately foliowing the closing of the saloons. HOBOES CAUGHT WHO STOLE RIDE IN U.S. MAILCAR (Speck: CHEYENN! Wheeler and.
