Ri Td ett Cold Weather Halts Peace and Few & Wells. Are The cold weather and the dullness in the of] regions which always comes at the holiday season are reflected in the oil fleld reports for the past week, says the Derrick's summary of last Monday. Few .wella of size were com- pleted in any field, the number being jess than for several weeks. Even North Louisiana failed to report such gushers as have been the common news from the Claiborne district. Only two wells of important size were found at Claiborne, each making 1,500 barrels, and one in the shallow and the other in the deep sand. Bull Bayou did a little better with one producer starting at 1,800 barrels. North Texas producers were hampered by bad roads and in- clement Weather, which troubled the tests far from transportation. In the pools many wells were completed, but none of unusual size. The Burkbur- nett field led in the number of new wells, and the average initial produc- tion was fairly large although not equal to some in the past. Oklahoma's best producer was in the Beggs district of Okritilgee county, starting at 900 barrels. -Nothing new was reported from Kansas except that the wells in the Peabody-Elbing field were showing good staying qualities,.and a promis- ing sand pool is being opened in Allen } county. The sale of oil leases at public auction in the Osage district will be held at Pawhuska on February 3, next. The sale will cover 30,000 acres, some of the land being close to production und other portions being strictly wild The development of some of the former leases sold by the government has made considerable territory desir- and it is presumed the usual high +s will prevail dt the sale. Loutsiana, operations — we more affected by the lack of transpor tation than the cold weather and only a few good completions were reported. Bull Bayou had the largest, an 1,800-) barrel well in the old development. In | the Claiborne district a deep sand pro-; ducer making 1,500 barrels was report- | ed, and one of the same size in the shallow sand, both being in the pool. | Other smaller wells were obtained in both sands. Immediately after the | holidays several of the important gests far from production should reach the | sand depth, and hopes are entertained; that some of them may open new fields | or indicate extensions. Just at present, | this division is attracting as much at-| tention.ag any. Weather conditions were given as the! pause for*the largest decline in a single week in’ the estimated production of the North Central Texas fields since they became prominent as a producing region. The loss from the previous | Week's report was 17,115 barrels: in th! daily output. The most interesting news from the division was the discov- ery of oil in tests jn several localities. One is, three miles: South -of—Bastiand. ; where a 500-barrel well was’ obtained on | the Connellee farm. This adjoins an-! of the s@me name where other farm there are two small producers and one dry hole, It is a deep sand. Shallow| oll is reported near Paris, in Lamar county, and the new pool opened-south | of Sipe Springs is making a good pro- duction ut about 200 feet, in two Senile: The first well obtaining oil in this shal-} low sand was supposed to be a freak, | but further efferts indicate a+ peol. | Wighteen wells were completed in East: | Jand county, the best starting barrels, and most of the othe dry or big gas producers, Eleven wer reported from the Duke pool, rangin from 20 barrels up to 1,200. Two w dry and one was a gas Well. Stephens | county had 10 completions; all small | with one exception which started at! 1,000 barrels, and one dry. surkbur: nett had a Jong list of completions, of which eight started at from 1,000 1,500 barrels. Many of the ethers were | of 100-barrel size or smaller, and four | were dry. Considering the number of | completions the list of failures is un usually small, but the effects of close drilling are production of the new wells. The Gulf coast division of was very | terest. No large producers were ob tuned and the estimated daily produc Uon dropped 3,560 barrels. The two gushers obtained Ohio Oil company at Lance Creek Wyoming, will cause more oéperations to be started as soon as weather condi tions favor them.
