The drill of the Sunset well pierced the caprock last week and the tools! are said to be dripping with oil. The showing 4s considered . excellent and drillers are optimistic. The well is now drilling around 3800 feet, according field reports, within the next 100 feet. The successful completion of the well would change the outline of the Lance Creek field and tend to bear out the theory that the western anticline ex- tends far to the south MARKET GOSSIP AND FIELD NEWS Cactus Berchet Near Sand in Al- bany County; Indiana Well to Go Deeper An important wildcat well being drilled by the Cactus Petroleum, com- pany 3 on the county SE of , three mile 18-75, Al- east of James and approximately 15 miles north- west of L mie and southeast of the Rock Cr field, is nearing completion, The hole is below 5 feet, but mak- ing slow progress as the drill is in a sandstone which is unusually hard. Oil showing in the hole and there are in- dications that the well is In a cap rock. The thickness of this rock is unknown, but the presence of oil indicates that the thickness is not very great. The James lake* structure is described by geologists as being very promising. STAR RIG DISCARDED The Indiana Oil company is moving a new Standard rig to the Indiana dome, 12 miles north of Shoshoni, to re- place a Star rig with which the initial test well on that structure has been sunk-to a depth of 1,050 feet, The hole will be carried to whatever depth is necessary to make a thoro test of the structure. OIL IN CENTENNIAL WELL An unconfirmed report states that gas and a small amount of oil have been encountered in the Centennial well in Goshen Hole at 1,550 feet. This field lies southeast of Guerhsey and the structural formation of the field is said to resemble closely that of the Lusk field. NEW FIELD IN LARAMIE REGION Ohio Starts Work on Two Rivers Structure, Held Favorable for Oil Production has The Ohio Oil company started work on what appears to be an entirely new structure. The well is located on seetion 3-18-74 and the structure is about six miles east of James lake ana} 14 miles northwest of Laramie. According to the scouts who have ex amined the location, the Two Riv anticliye is a true anticline with a s! break in the ¢ portion and the forming a sad ck with the How dome. ‘The* latter structure has been known for some ‘3 by the geolo- y of the southe n belt but the ex- of i anticline instead was not sus! ence of full a small dome a only until the Ohio's operations drew atten tion to it. The over in the Two River vicin y is mostly pleistocene’ deposits lying 1 cous formatic in situ pleistocene deposits ‘consist of avels und other aqueous deposits left and are not to be & the tertiary se considered when estimating the depth of probable sands of the eretaceous period. After drilling through the overlay, the bit will probably eneounter shale as the first strata in situ unde the unconformity but this may also be wove and the Niobrara or Benton shales form the top co ng of the formation lying in place is would allow a probable oil horizon to be found in the Benton, Cloverly, Morrison, Chugwater or Casper formations. ‘Two uncenformi ties are probably existant in the Two ti ructure, the first one between Morrison and the Chugwater and next between the base of the Chug- water and the Cusper. The whole gevlogical column rises in this vicinity to the eastward and the igneous rocks of the Aezoic surface about 20 miles east, because of the Sherman uplift that brings the granites to the surface in the range crossed by the Union Paeific at Sherman. The ultitude of the Two Rive ture varies from 7,100 to 7, making, it aXrather high territory to work in and especially to get up steam in a boiler. the the se Histri ie ee. Historie. Little. Since the other wells were brought in there has never been any doubt about this one' proving to’ be a good} producer, but there is now actual proof that the oil pool under the dome extends over enough territory to make it one of the big fields of the state. The Producers have enough territory to guarantee an immense output. They have three new Standard rigs in the railroad yards here which are being hauled out to the fields as rapidly as the muddy condition of the roads wit! permit freight trucks to run. These! rigs will be set up and put in opera- tion at once and will aid greatly in the development of the ficld. Occidental Is Busy.
