mers nt la Yr st st rr ic ag It 51 ii! el h da ji w h © % b RAGE TWO PRESENT SITE FAVORED FOR NEW. BUILOING (Continued from Page 1) —— — Second street, which is fast becoming a business street of importance. The Episcopal church corner, which was suggested as an alternative site, is not of sufficient size nor is the Methodist church corner. Several other lots which were sug- gested, are held at a price beyond what it is thot the government would pay. City Attorney Dunham came out strongly in favor of the erection of an entire new federal building for Cas- per which would have space for fed- eral court rooms. “The present structure should be wrecked and an entire new building should be erected,” he said. “I have talked with Judge Riner, and I know that he would be glad to hold ses- sions of the federal court here were| there a suitable room.” A. J. Mokler crystalized the opin- ion of the meeting when he stated that the government is amply abie to pay for a suitable site for a postof- fice and. that, being a business insti- tution, it will pay whatever price is asked for the site wanted as it has done elsewhere. He offered a motion that word be sent to Mr. Chambers that the citizens of Casper wish the govern- ment to acquire the city park ad- joining the postoffice property and erect an adequate building on the site. e Jack Leary offered a supplemen- tary motion to the effect that a com- mittee of five be appointed to con- fer with the city officials regar ing a price on the park property,! and that this committee use its in- fluence to see that an entirely new building is erected’ on the present postoffice site and adjoining city property. A further motion was made that! E. D. Holmes be a member of the committee, and he appointed as his assistants Ex-Governor B. B. Brooks, Senator Patrick Sullivan, C, H. Town- send and P. J. O'Connor. { Should the suggestion made at the meeting be followed by the govern- ment, the postoffice will probably have to be housed in temporary quar- ters while the work is in progress. This was done at Lincoln, Nebr., where an old building was remodel-} ed, the postoffice being housed in a shack similar to the army canton-j ment buildings while the work was in progress, x One speaker deelared that almost is every other city of size in Wyoming has a better looking federal building than Casper. There was a strony} sentiment for the erection of a Bed-} ford stone building rather than a brick structure. Postmaster Sproul assured the citi- zens that whatever plan is followe the government architect wil] be sat- isfied only with the erection of a dignified solidly built. building, which. will be a credit to the govern- ment and a source of pride to the city. DOCTORS UNABLE TO SAVE LEG, AMPUTATION MADE; Conductor F. W. Fritz of the C, B. & Q. underwent an operation at the State Hospital yesterday afternoon, for the amputation of the lower third of his left leg which was badly crush- cd when he fell beneath the wheels of a freight car at Cadoma Thurs- day. The attending physician was at first hopeful of saving the leg but complications which developed mede the ‘amputation nee: > Conductor Appleby, who was in- jured several weeks ago in a fall, is recovering nicely.
