The discovery well for this field was struck on Jan- uary 8, 1919 at a depth of 1,411 feet, a ations at once became active ection. The field has had many disappointments, altho a num-| ber of good producers were obtained. Numerous tests, however, close to production were dry, and while there were extensions west and northwest the territory appeared to be spotted. The staying qualities of the wel their d the quality of the oil, were encouraging features. The lat- est strike by the § rd Oil com- pany of Louisiana, located in the same section as the discovery well, adds interest to the field, since the oil was found at a depth of 2 feet, or some 500 feet deeper than the sand which has furnished the oth- er producers of the district. Thus two producing sands are known to the field and add to its importance as a future productive section. It is probable t the dry holes which found saltwater in the oil sand and were not drilled deeper will now be taken down to the new producing pay. The Standard well started at the rate of 10,000 barrels and is one of the produc found in North a. The will be a stimu- lation to more work, and also extend wildcat operations. In the same dis- trict two wells were reported making 500 ‘Is or better from the shal- you also furn starting at 2,500 ba and located in the north end of the pool. The other districts of the di- vision had fair completions, with few failures. Oklahoma reported run of fair producers from her many fields best was a well making 1,400 barrels natural in Okmulgee district. Haskell had ar important strike which extends the field a little.y The well made 350 barrels and is a location east of the discovery producer. A shallow field of fair producers seems to be open- ed in Okmulgee, the sand being found at about 500 feet. The largest well of the week in Osage county was 175, barrel producer after a shot. Many other completions were of small size Dry holes, small producers and large gas wells were reported from the southwestern part of the state. The Elbing pool of Kansas furnish ed the only interesting features of that state. Ward et al, got a pro- ., ducer starting at 60 barrels an hour at ten feet in the sand. Aside from this the news sent out of Kansas was uninteresting. : More interest is attached to the on the Moorman in than any other Texas that appear- ed in the week’s ne from that di- vision. The well was not large, show- ing only 100 barrels at the start, but the location means a prospective new field as it is located some 15 miles from production. The largest well reported was the Texas Drilling company’s No. 1 Beardon, which start- ed at 3,000 barrels. This is in the Duke pool of Comanche county. One 3,000-barrel well} was struck at Burkburnett where 56) completions were reported for the previous week. Of this number 12] were failures, and the others start- ed from 15 barrels up to 3,000 bar-| ;rels. The Texas well in Young coun-| ty has not been drilled in yet, and is still eredited with 50 barrels daily. Eastland had one new producer, be- ing Dorsey & Co.’s No. 8 on the Har- rison, which started at 1,800 bar- and there were a few smaller one The Gulf Coast fields were not specially interesting in the reports.) The deepening of an old hole at West Columbia resulted in a showing for 4,000 barrels, but it soon sanded. Another well making 2,000 barrels with 40 per cent water, was found in the defined section of the pool. Other completions in the several pools were either small wells or salt water holes. The estimated daily average output shows a decrease of 3,590 barrels from the estimate of last week. A gas well in the Houma district in Terrebonne parish, 45 miles south. west from New Orleans, and promis. ing tests near Crosby, Harris coun- ty, and south of Dayton in Liberty county, Texas, were the features among the outside tests. | The gross production of Texas, ac- cording to reports filed with the state comptroller, for the first six months of 1919, was 31,439,289 barrels. Dur- ng the comparative period in 1918 the gross production was 15,377,474 barrels, or 16,061,815 barrels | than for the first half of 1919. The} increase comes entirely from the! northwi Texas fields. | One gusher well was reported from Wyoming, being located in the Lance Creek field, and obtained by the Ohio} Oil company. Other smaller wells} were reported, with an extension of! wildcat work all over the state. | A big well was struck in the west ern Kentucky field, which is rated at better than 1,000 barrels. For the shallow fields this is a real gusher. {In Lee county and the other fields the late completions are of moderate size, and indicate the drilling up of 2 4 the prolific territory. In the old Fonner field an unusual wel] for the Pennsylvania territory was completed. It was owned by a local company, and located on a small eight-acre piece. The well reached an output of 1,000 barrels a day aft- er deeper drilling, and then settled back to 450 barrels at the close of the week. This was the only well of importance to be reported from the old pools. The well has caused the starting of many tests in the vicinity.’ pee ee The Ladies’ Aid of the Presbyterian church will hold an ice cream social Friday evening at the home of Mrs.!
