Of this number 195 are producing wells, with a as fields will be producing’ 300,000) barrels of oil daily. Burkburnett has an established production of 100,000 now, and only needs pipe lines to con-} vey the oil. Ranger is running 60,-; 000 and 70,000*barrels, and Desde-| mona will run as much as soon as pipe; lines can handle it. It is no longer question of getting oil in Texas;| the big problem is getting it out of the fields. Among the latest intportant com-| pletions in Burnett are the following: Texas Producing & Refining, Wag-| goner No. 2, on the G. C. Wood acre-| age, in block 86, 2800 barrels. Desdemona is the scene of the} greatest play in the Texas game right) now. The place was known as “Hog! Town” until recently. Desdemona had 50 people when the oil boom devel-| oped; 10,000 people are now elbow- | ing each other in a mush-room town of tents, shacks and dugouts. Over 2000 companies have been in- corporated or filed articles of trust to drill and refine oil and sell leases and -royalties: in the north Texas/| fields. Many of these companies are legitimate, and mean business; but, on the other hand, a great many of them are trying to operate on oth- er people’s money. Some intend to drill if they get enough capital; oth- ers are simply being promoted for the benefit of the promoters, who will use up stoek subscriptions in high | salaries and- excessive _oyer-head charges. Many of the legitimate com- panies operating in Texas are listed) on the New York exchange, the New York curb, and the Pittsburgh Oil ex- change. Quotations are also issued daily by the Ft. Worth Oil exchanges, on most of the legitimate companies. People unfamiliar with the oli bus- iness will do wel] to exercise cau-/| tion before they invest in oil stocks. You can’t be too careful in buying! these. Incorporated companies are preferable, particularly those incor- porated in Texas. GAS EXPLOSION CLAIMS VICTIM Darrell F. This company purchased thru the Over- land Lumber company at Carter, all of the lumber to complete the large reinforced derrick, and have secured the large bull and calf wheels and rig irons from Denver. The com- pany also has contracted for several thousand feet of 5 3-16th, 17-pound casing, which it will use in complet- ing the well. The gas pressure at the well, which had been drilled to 1784 feet several years ago, is so strong that they are compelled to reinforce the seven-inch casing now in the well. Also, there is a showing of oil, enough to ren- der the water in the well disagree- able for domestic purposes, A con- tinuous flow of oil and gas is noted. The management is confident of bringing in a gusher at no great depth, probably within 6 days after drilling is begun, This company has large acreage in both Lincoln :nd Uinta counties.
