No casing was at hand with which to shut off the water and the driller on tower refused to go deeper with the drill until the sident of the company, E. Smilack arrived from Hartford City, Ind., to give further instructions. There is little doubt in the minds of those familiar with the oil game that oi] will soon be found in large quantity in this vicinity. Now that the shopmen have decided to return to work pending a settle- ment of their alleged grievances there is nothing to hinder resumption of the work. Four trains, two each way, are working out of the pit and will be so eng 1 for many months, the man- age’ evidently | desirous of improving the physical, condition of their road beds while the government is footing the bills.
