DAOUTH TEACHES TRUE VALUE OF WATER IN STATE Dry Season Resulting in Many Com:| plications and Disputes Over Priorities and Other Problems SHERIDAN, Wyo., Aug. 15.— “This season,” said State Engineer Frank Emerson on a recent visit here, “has brot to the attention of| many users of water thruout the state} the necessity of a more economic use,! and while in the past there has gen-| erally been plenty of water, there has been a hesitancy on the part of many to adopt plans which might result in more carefully guarding the use of water, because of its abundance, but now that the possibilities of drouth are apparent, there is a certain de-| mand for the installing of measur- ing devices to see that only. the amount of water allowed by law is used, and if possible to try cure that amount. “Priority for much unpleasantness at times for water superintendents, and __ often questions arise which are difficult to immediately determine, but thru the installation of cement or iron head- tes with positive measuring appar-| a recording the amount of water! passing thru, during a perilous sea- son, much of this difficulty will be overcome.” Another proposition which attracts much attention is in the privately- owned and company reservoirs, built to hold storage water, and which dur- ing the irrigation season still absorb} the water whether it is used or not, and measures will be installed to see| that during the irrigation season an over-supply of water is not taken in- to them. Mr. Emerson has but recently re- turned from Washington where he went to look into certain matters per- taining to the use of waters originat- ing in Wyoming, which is being di- verted into other states, and which principally affect the waters of the} Platte river in the southern part of the state and the Snake river of the western part. Sometime ago an in- junction was secured by Wyoming restraining water users in Colorado from diverting waters in this state for use in Colorado, and this is now pending in the United States supreme and se-! Tie Boom Breaks at Riverton Under Pressure of Flood| SHOSHONI, Wyo., Aug. 15.—A hastily assembled boom is being} placed in the Big Horn river near this place to catch 6,000 railroad ties} which escaped when the boom of the; Wyoming Tie & Lumber company at Riverton broke under pressure of high| water. Many of the fugitive ties are stranded along the river below River- ton.
