teil aa cs icles i einen WATER IN BASIN COUNTRY NOW IN COURT Injunction against Tapping Lakes Secured against Big Rancher and Threats of Damage Suit Are Made (Special to The Tribune.) BASIN, Wyo., Aug. 5.—Some time since someone suggested that the lakes in the mountain at the head of Paint Rock creek should be tap- ped and the flow of the creek in- creased so that all might have water for irrigation. After the matter was) talked over a vote of the people on| the creek was taken and it was de-/ cided by an almost unanimous vote to not undertake the work as it was feared the lowering of the lake might dry up the springs in the mountains where the ranve stock sunimers. A. S. Mercer, the largest rancher on the creek, decided to do the work anyway and with a large force of men and teams went on the moun- tain Friday for that purpose. This so enraged the residents on the creek} that they came to town with blood) in their eyes and after securing legal assistance secured an injunction re- straining Mercer from tapping the lake. The case will be heard on Wed- nesday before Judge Metz. | Bond was fixed at $3,000 for the men to secure the injunction and the judge intimated that unless the case was disposed of Wednesday that this | amount would be materially in-| creased.
