The oil jwas found Sunday but the land was not filed on until » Monday by E. Gem |H. Hagerty of the Wyoming |company here. Notices have been posted. | Tests of the oil taken yesterday afternoon showed that it was excep- | tionally fine for lubricating oil, t’ grade being even better than that | from Salt Creek. It showed a grav ity of 83.7. Old oil men who saw the oil come in from the Salt Creek and Shannon districts say that the discovery west of here is much the same as in that region. Casper creek has not been dry for many years but oil has been | floating on top of the water when the river bed was filled with water. The creek has been dry only about three weeks but a party investigating Sunday found that by digging down | about six inches from the top of the sand in the river bed, a mud layer and oil was reached. The oil bubbled out when the sandy layer had been removed, each removal from the hole resulted in its refill- ing with this rich lubricating oil. The preliminary investigation Sunday showed that oil found in the creek bed for a radius of about 50 | yards. But there was enough oil present to make Mr.| Hagerty and party file claim for three sections of | land in 5, range 83.
