Oil activity is on the increase in the district between Rawlins and the Lost Soldier field and present indica- tions are favorable for extensive de- velopment this season. The Midwest Refining company has leased 14 full sections, 8,960 acres, from the Union Pacific R. R, in what is known as the Separation Flats dis-! trict, and has commenced drilling a test on Sec. 16-24-88, This. well is re- ported showing some gas at a depth of only a few hundred feet. This group of leases starts at the southern boundary of the Lost Soldier govern- ; ment withdrawal and extends several miles to the south in, checkerboard fashion. The Midwest also has about 10 sections north of this district in- side of the withdrawal and southeast of the Lost Soldier dome. The Ohio Oil Co. has taken up sev- eral leases in the Separation Flats district and is preparing to drill near Soda Lake in Sec. 36-24-88. The Texas Co. has acauired almost 2,000 acres in the district and prob- ably will drill. Geologists have been making some new surveys of the territory north of Rawlins recently and have revised to a certain extent their previous opin- ions of the district. The escarpment marking what was supposed to be one large structure with the Lost Soldier dome, the only part that has so far been found productive, has been picked up at a location much further south than where it was supposed to fade out, and now it is believed that there are a series of folds or small domes which may be productive. CONSUMPTION Ot GIL IN WEST LEADS PRODUCTION The Rocky Mountain duced 1,259,000 barrels of crude oil in April as compared with 1,168,000 barrels in March and 955,000 bar- rels in April, 1918, according to the U. S. Bureau of Mines report. daily zverage in April was 41,967 barrels as compared with 677 in March and 31,833 in fields pro- pril petroleum in the district in April 1,305,000 bar- rels as compared with 1,209,000 bar- rels in the previous month and 842,- 000 barrels in April, 1918. The con- sumption exceeded the production in April by 96,000 barrels. The sto: at the end of April in the R Mountain region amounted to 000 barrels, « decrease of 46,000 barrels as compared with the end of the previous month and an in- crease of 201,000 barrels over April, 1918. The Empire Gas & Fuel Co., the oil subsidiary of the Gities Service Co., has abandoned as a dry hole the deep test which it commenced in 1917, 15 miles south of Rock Springs in Sweetwater county on sec. 20-18- 103. The hole was drilled below 3,- 300 feet. It encountered one or two showings of gas and oil, but nothing of importance. At one point it en- countered a flow of salt water. The company had @ large acreage in that district under lease which it’ is un- derstood, it has surrendered. ————s | Lowered Percentage Donald—“D-ye ken Mac fell in | the river on his hame last nicht?” Willie—“De dinna mean tae say he was drooned?” i—*Not drooned, but badly | | Poison Spider-Bolton Syndicate Announcement able to see me during business hours I will be at my office from SEVEN to EIGHT “approximately 1,200 acres. ~ BE EXTRACTED Indica- tions thet the company will operate |in Colorado are contained in the fil- ing of a notice with the secretary of |state reserving the use of the com- pany’s name for the filing of articles at a later date. |Sabin, president of the Guaranty Trust Co. of New York, and Henry Lockhart, jr., own a majority of the stock which consists of 200,000 shares, no par value, with 191,000 |shares outstanding.
