While reports that the Western States Oil and Lend company well on section 3, Lance Creek field, has reached the oil sands cannot be con- firmed, investors and operators are confident in the belief that its com-! pletion will be announced in a few days time. Drillers are underream- ing to set the casing and the resump- tion of work means that a new| gusher will shortly be brot in as there is little or no chance for a failure. Drillers say that all ihdications are that the well will be a big one as soon as the sand is penetrated. Striking of oil at this point in the field, while fully anticipated, is im- portant as proving the widening area of the productive zone end as es- tablishing the certainty that the Lusk field is all that expert oil men and geologists have claimed for it. The new well is located on the Western Solons in Position to Se-| probably receive the ready approval cure for States Part of Oil Land Receipts. j Whether or not the oil land leas- | ing bill to be enacted by the special | session of congress or the regular | session to follow will divide the roy-| alties from oil and other minerals so | that the several states in which they | are produced will share in the re-| ceipts, holds a point of interest in! public and official approval of such a@ measure. | “There has been an effort to have | all these royalties thrown into the | reclamation service of the govern- | jment,” said Frank G. Curtis today, who has kept in touch with develop- ;ments. This has been properly at- |tacked as unjust and unfair to the states from which the minerals are taken and scattered throughout the union for the whole forty-eight states. It is not what happened in connec- tion with the development of the | Eastern states. There are those | who argue that when the Western | states were admitted to statehood southwest quarter of the southeast| they yielded their mineral resources quarter of section 3, arfd is approx- | to the national government, but that} is an argument of law, rather than | imately three-fourths of a mile south of the well drilled jointly by the hio, Buck Creek and Midwest com-| panies in the northwest quarter of the same section, and now producing 1,600 berrels daily. The Western States well is the farthest from the crest of the anticline yet drilled in the field, and the depth at which the sand was tapped, 3,640 feet, com- pared with 3,665 feet, at which depth | oil was found in the pioneer well, is enlightening as showing the trend of the situation. Oi] was struck in the, joint well on section 3 at 3,500; feet. The new strike proves up ground pf several companies operating in| the neighborhood, and is of especial benefit to the Gr: Creek Petroleum | compeny and Lance Creek Royalties | company, which are operating on aj| 60-40 bi the 320 acres on section | 10 immediately south of the tract! upon which the Western States well is located. GURB ISSUES LEAD WAY TO STRONGER MARKET WITH BUYING LIVELY General improvement in curb issues helped to strengthen trading prices of other issues today and prospective strikes of a number of wells in the Lance Creek field brot all stocks with holdings in that field into more active demand. Altho apparently quiet to those not in touch with the market} eensiderable trading is reported by brokers and buying is being indulged in by those who anticipate a big bulge in the market with the comple- tion of new wells. Midwest Refining climbed back to $184 today ufter a recession to $179 y, Salt Creek Producers} sold above the $60 mark and Pro- ducers and Refiners was strong. | Western States Oil and Land has not yet responded to the pending strike on section three but was quot- ed today around $7.50 with consider- able sto « changing hands. Handicapped by lack of accommoda- tions at the time the Lance Creek field first jumped into promitience, the opportunities there were confined to real estate investment and prog- ress was slow until building could be started.
