In this frame Thermopolis tried hard to come back but succeeded in get- ting only an unearned run across the plate. With one down and a man on third Koons sacrificed and McNeil playing third for Casper threw the man out, at first thinking there were two men down. The sensations of the game were the pitching of Nelson for the local teem, a long throw from Center field by Barnstein cutting a Thermopolis runner off at the home plate and the bunching of hits by the local team when hits ment: runs. First: On Friday, April 11, after being taken off the cars in Denver, she was given a few adjustments at E. J. Johnson's Mz ell agency garage, 143 Cleveland Place, she then put her nose into a strong head and rolled toward Cheyenne, wind at exactly 1:30 p.m. The roads were fine to within miles of Gheyenne where we had to stop and put on our chains. (We were acc vanied on pt Mr. Jack Herndon and Mr. Frank Benton of Thermopolis, > We two big sixes.) We arrived in Cheyenne at 6:15, making 16 miles ir 15 minutes. The next morning, after putting in four f ga t k was run- ning over and we could hardly believe eve at 8 we hit the road and began bucking si ind mud ay we battle with iddy, sticky hills and big snowdrifts, passing car after car, stuck fast the mud and snow. We arrived in Wheatland at 6:30 where Mr. H und Mr 1 took their hats off to the little Maxwell. We left Wheatland at 7:30 on tt of the 18th in a drizzling rain and at 10 o’clo Mr. Herndon stripped und had to leave it; By 4 o’clock we had overtaken seven other cars t! g the m —some of them had left Denver on Monday morning, wad of us. On ar- rival in Douglas Messrs. Herndon and Benton again nats off to the little Maxwell for she was the only car that had pull all the hi without help We ar rived in Casper on Monday, April 14, at 3 p. n ter a big feed at the Ameri- can cafe we went to Boyle's garage, where we ur rs for the nignt. Mr. Herndon figured cut our gas bills fr r to Casper fter going over the figures several times he announced thattt had made tle over 10 miles to the gallon and the little Maxwell had made better than 22 miles per gallon for the whole trip. and has just been Mr. Herndon will testify to thi low: e on a visit and is re- turning soon to work for the Maxwell garage here, ving quit siness in Thermop- olis to accept a position here.
