TITLES TO MAVERIGK SPRINGS OIL LAND CONTESTED BY GROUP UF LOCATORS WHO GLAIM RIGHT e.: WEDNESDAY, Ex-Governor Chatterton Heads Suit to Oust Con- cerns Who Purchased Leases at Government Auction and Developed Holdings The Maverick Springs field is in litigation, the suit that is causing trouble was brot in Cheyenne by a number of locators | Kinney who claim to have located the territory before the present ope- Mer rators bot their leases at the auction at Fort Washakie last fall. |M The suit is an endeavor to oust the Carter, Ohio, Sheridan Mi Wyoming and other firms who have drilled the discovery wells Mid in the field and have borne all the expenses of developing the territory. Ex-Governor Fenimore Chatterton is one of the prime movers in the suit and also one of the locators. There are 11 others. The government took over the land in 1906 from the Indians and opened it for entry. It also sold a number of oil and gas leases and among the buyers were the Ohio Oil company, the Sheridan Wyoming Oil company, and the Carter Oil company. These three firms have been the most for- ward in the developing of the coun- try, the Carter Oil company for in- stanee, starting last winter to move yin material and equipment for their work, COL.
