WATER HOLE IN MURPHY FIELD Second Sand Saturated with Water as Established by Drill- ‘ing of Past Week The Murphy dome northeast of the well of the Cheley Welch inter- ests found the second sand full of water and has shu¢ down with a pos- sible abandonment ‘of the hole in yiew. The Murphy structure which lies between Nowater and Nowood creeks on the Washakie-Hot Springs county line} has created a furore among the Wyoming oil men as a coming oil field. The Ohio Oil company and the Midwest both took up acreage as soon as the dome was definitely laid out and have both started wells drilling. The Cheley and Welch in-! terests are the first to reach the ex-| pected oil-bearing sand and theefind-! ing of. water instead of oil has given! the whole field a bldek eye. There are still three sands below the present water strike that might | hold oil and if the Welch well caft| shut off the water they may drill on down for a test of these sands, .The other fields of Wyoming where more than one sand is encountered, ofte’ find that the upper sand may hold water while the lower formations turn out to be good producers. This is especially true of Big Muddy, where the first Wall Creek is often found} water-beating and the second Wall Creek is @ good oil producer. The wells of the Ohio and Midwest | are loedted a good two miles from the Welch well andswhile the con- tractora in the Murphy dome are cast | down somewhat by the finding of | water in the Iattér, they claim that | the ‘loeation of the Welch well is really off the northern edge of the dome ard that fhe twe other wells of the Ohio and Midwest will be the real tests of the dome as sey are located upon the axis. §1,000-FOR REO GROSS FROM FRONTIER SHWS CHEYENNE, Wyo., July 81—With} practically half 6f the stock donated | to the local chapter of the American} Red Cross during Frntier week still | on hand, and some of the handlers of tickets not having reported, the} entire amount taken in thru the sale} of these raffles, the local chapter has} already collected $1,099.55.
