Her Uncle Peter, who has become a prosperous Pennsylvania farmer, sends for her to come to America with the children. He meets them at the pier in New York, but is injured while seeking information about trains, and is taken to a hospital, where no means of identification is found upon him. Hulda with her three infant brothers seek shelter with a kind-hearted old boadring-house land lady. 4 The search for Uncle Peter, in which Hulda and Walter's son become involved, develops a delightful romance.
