Borland Speaks Hon. W. P. Borland of Kansas City M. C. for the 5th Congressional Dis- trict, addressed a large audience in the circuit court rooms last Tuesday evening. Mr. Borland, who is an orator of exceptional ability, made a highly in- teresting and instructive talk on State nd national issues and clearly “showed up’ some of the fallacies of the Republican and Third Term doc- trines. The Jackson County Examiner says this week of Mr. Borland: Missouri may well be proud of this young schoolmaster in politics whom she has given to the nation as a worthy successor to the mantle of Benton, Vest and the other giants who have represented her in the na- tional legislature in the glorious past. And the Democratic party of Missouri will hardly find a more gallant stand- ard bearer in the gubernatorial cam- paign four years hence than Kansas City’s brilliant son. Progressive Democracy. The Roosevelt campaign in Missou- | rilast spring and summer was the fervid embodiment of a popular de- mand for the freedom of the ballot anda protest against bossism and theft within the Republican party. But now, not satisified with fraudu- lent voting in the election of Taft del- egates, and the arbitrary elimination of Roosevelt delegates in the national convention, the Taft leaders in this state are trying to disfranchise every man in Missouri whose convictions today impel him to vote for Roose- velt. The most effective rebuke for that sort of thing is to simply vote the straight Democratic ticket. Ex Governor A. M. Dockery made a ringing Democratic speech to ‘a large audience of voters in the circuit court rooms in this city Wednesday afternoon discussing state and nation- al issues in a forceful convincing manner.
