Deaton and wife, after a few days pleasant visit with Foster friends, left on the noon train for their home at Nyhart Sunday. Mrs. Maggie Weddle, of St. Jo- seph, who has been visiting the past two weeks at the Schaffner home in this city, departed on the noon train Sunday. Mrs. F. A. Scholler, who is spend- ing a month visiting relatives in Kan- sas, was expected home Sunday. Mr. Scholler met the train, but when she failed to arrive there was a big Dutchman with tears in his eyes, but we are not going to tell on him. Robert Treasure was a passenger to Nevada Saturday noon to visit his son, Jim and wife, a few days. Homer Claypool, of Pittsburg, Kan., was here shaking hands and greeting old friends Friday, where he had spent his boyhood days. Jake Metzler, of Chicago, spent a few days the first of the week visiting his brother, A. G. Metzler, of this city. They made a flying trip ‘to Rich Hill in their auto Monday. C. C. Swarens was a passenger to Butler Monday noon. Mrs. Anna Hart, who is here from Texas visiting her father, is spending a few days visiting friends at El Do- rado springs. _Mrs. M. C. Miller left to attend the Presbyterian assembly Friday, which is in session this week at Holister, Taney county. She will be absent for several days. Mrs. Lorena Bright left for Collins- ville, Okla., Saturday, to visit her parents and to see her grandfather, C. Peterson, who is critically ill at that place. Mr. Peterson was once a resident of Old Walnut and will be remembered by many of the older inhabitants of Walnut township. Prof. W. C. Chamberlin, Lonnie Briscoe, Wendell McHenry and sister, Vera, returned home from Warrens- burg Sunday, where they have been attending summer school at the state normal. The weather was fine and could not have been nicer for'such an occasion. R. K. Godwin and family visited at Tom Cannon’s Sunday. Mr. Smith is having considerable trouble with his threshing machine. It seems like as soon as one thing is repaired another gets out of order. It has sure been ideal weather for threshing. Mrs. Godwin was able to go to Urich Saturday. Mr. Thurman, wife and daughter visited at Mr. Dales Sunday. The little son of Mr. and Mrs. George Getz has been quite sick but is bétter at this writing. Miss Elsa Gilbert has been visiting in Butler the past week and also at- tending the Chautanqua. Mrs. Russels cousin is visiting her. morning.
