I will say in connection with the above that I believe 5O per cent of my Hereford cows are heavier milkers than the average cows on the farms in Bates county; that while hundreds of cattle were shipped out of the county the past season on account of drouth, my cows raised fine, fat calves on just the same kind of pasture, without any grain or hay, and many of the cows suckling calves are fat intial for beef.
