From the district clerks’ report I find that there were 6461 pupils en- rolled in the Bates county schools during the past year. Of this num- ber 54 were colored. Of this num- ber Rich Hill had 779, Butler 735, | Adrian 302, Hume 208 and Rockville '199. Harmony, in Shawnee, had the largest enrollment of any rural school | having 57. We find that 14 schools enrolled less than 15 pupils, 29 enrolled. more | than 15 and less than 25, 58 more than '25 and less than 40. That 16 had an | average daily attendance of less than /10 pupils, 29 had less than 15 but more than 10, | The average length of school term | was 155 days. 130 of the 139 districts shave libraries. The number of vol- jumes in all libraries is 10,749. Of [this number Rich Hill has 556, Butler | has 700 and Adrian 256. | The State Superintendent has just ‘sent mea list of towns with the enumeration sent in this and last year ‘that a comparison may be made on these but as the lists show a decrease for all Bates county towns it will ‘hardly be necessary to. make an in- | vestigation unless Supt. They have A Bank for All The People There are some people in every community who think that banks were made for the rich. If you are one of the misinformed who have this thought, let us again emphasize the fact that ours is a bank for all the people, A deposit of $1.00 receives the same welcome and the same courte- ous attention as a deposit of $1,000.00 for this reason: Many a deposit of $1.00 has grown into an account of $1,000.00 or more and made itself worth while to the bank and its depositor. Begin to save now and stick to it. Open an account to-day with a growing bank, and grow with it. i OS MAE RES Sas: BO nie? Peoples Bank Butler, Missouri THE BANK ON WHICH YOU CAN ALWAYS BANK. Honorable Cornelius Roach, the Missouri Secretary of ‘State, has another reason for being—the thir- teenth one, we believe. It is very much alive, too, although it is only a statute. It was through the efforts of Mr. | Roach that the recent Missouri Legis- lature was induced to strike a telling blow at the wild-cat corporation. Under the old law it was possible to incorporate with a capital stock con- sisting of little more than hot air and empty pledges. The articles had merely to be acknowledged. Under the new law, as The Republic recent- ly explained, it will require some- thing more than enthusiasm to in- corporate a company in Missouri. The articles must be sworn fo. The “bug’’ that does the work- in Mr. Roach’s statute is the following oath, which must be subscribed and sworn to by each stockholder: “The undersigned, being subscrib- ers to the above and foregoing arti- cles of agreement for the incorpora- tion of the , being duly sworn, upon their oaths, each did say that the statements and matters set forth therein are true; that they know the ER it DUTCP ss co ors Saisie 000 0544 Will you fan it thoroughly?. .
