Shooting at Amoret. Last Saturday night Walter Penny shot Everett Roberts through the arm inflicting a painful wound. It appears they had both been attending a aoe on the state line, near the bridge, when returning about midnight, Rogers attempted to drive around Penny, when the latter became en- raged, drew his pistol and fired, with the above result. Roberts swore out a warrant against Penny early Sunday morning, and when the con- stable went to serve it, the young man had skipped over the state line. Penny is the party who cut up one Williams several months ago and laid | in jail for some time. He is consider- ed a bad man when in his cups, which is quite often, so report goes. Children’s Easter Picnic. Saturday a few children of the East school gave an Easter picnic at Sid Voris’ timber, one and one-half miles south of town. The children all de- cided to walk, as ‘4! would enjoy it more than to ride, they looked very attractive walking down the road and was greeted by all who passed them by and attracted more attention than Edward Payson Westover, the kin of Pedestrians. Thirty-one boys an girls participated and report a delight- ul time. X. Pasture. We have extra good pasture for a limited number of horses, mules, etc. Plenty of water and shade.—McFar- land & Sons. It is almost astonishing how man‘ people are beginning to see how muc cheaper it will be to buy an automo- bile than to keep a horse. Several can afford to read the catalogs now. Some of the timid ones who must yet depend on the horse are learning to ig gracefully, and one young lady s learned to fall easily, Of course, the jokes are all on the women, but it is real fun to see a large and, shall we it, clumsy man, prepare to jump fe) miles away and thinks an auto ap- proaching. MIAMI, The Womans Store Cass County's New Home, The Cass County Democrat thus comments upon the new County In- firmary, just completed and paid for out of the county treasury: “The new County Home is practi- cally finished, the structure and 40-|~ acre site costing under $22,000, and all paid for. Rather, it will all be paid for as soon as the county court makes the last payment to the con- tractors, and it was all done without an extra levy. With all of the immediate debts of the work squarred up there will be possibly.a little more than $5,000 in the pauper fund to run the remainder of the year, which may require a lit- tle skimping on the part of the court, but it can be done, and in spite of a few premature fears when the work was begun on the new home, no one has been hanged or even sent to the penitentiary for life.
