Dynamite Placed in Rock Fails to Explode, and Location is Lost. Some trouble has arisen on that part of the d@inage ditch, east of Papltnville, between the county court and Sub-Consracsors Wills & Sons lb appears thas considerable rock bas beeo left in the channel of the ditch, although the ditch has been completed some distance beyoud thas point, and the county court is very wisely insisting that the ditch be completed as they go along. The broubie, as near as we can wather Is, {fs ubout as follows. When the rock was reached, about seventy holes were drilled aud dynamite placed shereln. Their electric firing ma- chine has & capacity of about 18 hole. Allseventy holes were jolned up, and an attempt was made to shoot them all at once and only about18 were exploded, and thecon nectiou ov the obers lost under mud and weier, Now, as we understand, itis extremely hazardous to go to drilling to that rock with about filty- two charges of dynamite stuck around therein. Thecourt, ofcourse {s not responeible for mistakes or ne | cidents of the contractors sud natur- wily expects those yentlemen to tiz- ure out thelr own problems The cours will probably refuse to pay any more money on shis contract, until the rock fs removed. Judge Hyde went to the scene of trouble on Mon- day with Chief Engineer Bell, The court holds the bond of Foohey & Sons, original contractors, andisnot worrying about the -final outcome. The Jadges speak very highly of the manner {n which Messrs Foohey have done thelr work and the dis- position they show to do the right things at all times.
