Sailor Springs, Ill., June 29.—Ju- lius Turner, a civil war veteran and wealthy farmer of Clay City, Ill., shot his wife to death from ambush, seriously wounded his 15-year-old son and attempted to commitsuicide near here last night. He is under arrest and refuses to partake of food, declaring he will starve himeelf to death. Turner and hie wife had been sep- arated four years. She was twenty yeare his junior and he was insanely jealous of her. The tragedy Sunday night was caused by him mistaking his own son for an admirer of Mrs. Turner, whom he had been shadow ing during the evening. When hesaw the youth, who fs large for his age, join his mother outelde the church, where a charity entertainment was in progress, his jealous frenzy overmastered him, and without walting to ascertain beyond doubt the identity of the supposed lover, opened fire on the patr from ambush. Turner te 69 years old and {s re- puted to be worth $30,000 to $40,- 000. He lives at Clay City, near where he owns several fine farms, and has a handsome residence here, where he passes the summer, Mrs. Turner was 49 years vld and since the separation she has been living near here.
