Reports have {t shat a new ewindl- ing game bas been worked on a |farmer near Algona, Iowa. A well- }dressed fellow came through the country stating that he was author- ized to test cows for tuberculosis, Of course, the farmer, hearing so much about what is being done by the state in regard to the prevention of tuberculosis, thought {t was all right and the fellow went ahead, supposed- ly making the test, with the result that the farmer was told a large number of his herd had re-acted. He was told he need not kill them if he could find some one who would buy them and take them out of thestate. In a day or two an elderly mancame along wanting to buy cowe; and, of course, the farmer wanted to sell these cows. They were promptly bought at about $15 per head. Af- ter they had been taken away alittle thinking on the part of the farmer convinced him that he had been the victim of a swindling game. This but emphasizes the fact that It 1a not wise to trust too implicitly in the stranger. Use judgment and discretion in dealing with men whom you know nothing about. Ifa man comes to your door purporting to be an officer of the state, he will be able to show of {t, and {¢ fs your night to demand that he do so before trusting him to do such work as testing your cows for tuberculosis, It is besser to do your thinking be fore the damage {s done than after- ward, As the old saying goes, ‘It does not pay to lock the stable door after the horeé fs stolen.’-—Mo, Tele- graph. $100 Reward, $100, The readers of this paper will be pleased to learm that there 1s atleast one dreaded disease that ecience has been able to cure in all its stages, and that {s Catarrh.
