VOL. XXVIII. BUTLER, MISSOURI, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18 1906. NO. 51 \A. H. Lyons Becomes a Democrat. A. H. Lyon, for several years prominent in newspaper circles in Southwest Missouri, known in the Btate councile of the Republican party and at present city editor of the Carthage Dally Dsmocrat, an- nounces his renunciation to the stand-pat party and declares he is & Democrat. Her One Regret. Some years there passed away one of those lovely eouls whom we call “sainte on earth.” Her whole life had been one of inspiration and help to all around her, and herend was not lees triumphant. One by one her friends were summoned to her bedside to receive ber farewell bless- fog, and each felt, as she left her, thas she had been on hallowed ground. One day her niece, who cared for her, said. “Oh, aunt, what @ wonderful thing it is that you can look back over your long life and find that there is absolutely nothing you have ever done that could cause you regret!” Tho feeble old lady smiled a little sadly, and sald: “But there are things I regret.” “You, aunt!” cried the niece Incred- ulous, “What could you find to re- gret?” “T regret,” she replied, “the good times I might have had and did not!” There is a deep lesson in this, The conscientious housewife is apt to be Family Reunion. Garber, (Okia.,) Sentinel. Bunday, Sept., 9th, at the pleas- ant home of Mr. and Mrs. Eves Vaughn, a family reunion wae held. A happy day was enjoyed by all, a bountiful dinner was served with ice cream and lemonade on the aide. Those present were Mr. and Mra. J. Woods and three children, Mrs Ruth Boardman and daughter of Cleo, Oklahoma, Mra. Anise J!-s‘er and two children, of Apache, Oklahoma, Enos Vaughn Jr. and wife and T. T. Vaughn, of Summer, Oklahoma, Mrs. G.F. Rhodus and three chil- dren, Mr. and Mre, F. Whetsell and Sterling V. an only uumarried child of the family. Children and grand- children were all present, except Sylvia the ten year old daughter of F, F. Vaughn who resides with her grandmother, Mrs. Courtney, in Bates County Missourl. The family had not been anited beforefor twelve years. All the children and mother were born and ralsed on the same Place in Bates county, Mo. But the old home has passed into strange hands. Sunday evening when the children gathered around the organ to sing their old songs, you may be sure they broke down when they came to the song “Take me Home to the Place WhereI first saw the Light.” J. Wickard, the Garber Photog- tapher came down and took a pic- ture of the house and family. and on the next day the family scattered to the four winds of Oklahoma. Those present beside the family were Mre. Adame and two children, Mise Coraand N. V.,eousine of the Vaughn family, Wm.Sample and mother and Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Dunn. A Gugst, |SsUR! iflGe Fe Railway We are now located In a review of the situation which brings about his change of heart, Mr. Lyon points to the fact that the Republican party has failed {n every important promise upon which it went into office two years ago.
