The basis of representation will be one delegate for each twenty- five or fraction of thirteen votes cast for Parkerfor President. Townships are entitled to delegate as follows: Grand River.... East Boone. West Boone. Elkhart... Shawnee... New Home...... Pleasant Gap. Rockville. West Point.. Mound.. Spruce... Summit. Charlotte Walnut. Lone Oak. Hudson. Pratrie.. Howard . Township delegates will meet in the Circuit Court room in Butler on Monday, May 14th, at two p. m. when the county convention will be held. Jas. 8, Combs, Chairman. H. 0. Howarp, See’y. SwPWONBOanronwornkhman Wherever an expression has been taken {in a Missouri county, thesenti- ment has been overwhelmingly for Bryan for the next Presidential nominee. The Democratic state ticket is go- Ing to win over in Kansas this year. Watch, wait and eee if this predic- tion is not true when the farmers of that state get a whack at the rotten - Republican administration they have ‘been having in that state the past two years. Willlam Jennings Bryan is unques- tionably the strongest man in his Party at this time in the United States, and Missouri Democrats are overwhelmingly for him. His nomi- nation would mean twenty thousand more votes for the ticket in this state. —_—_—_————EEe The Topeka Daily Capital, the Re- publican etate party organ, has bolt- ‘ed the Republican ticket, recently nominated in Kansas, so far as the Mleutenant governor and rallroad commissioner are concerneds. Itcon- . demns the platform ae dictated by ratiroad influences and laments that their platforms no longer command the profound interest of the state. The'indications this early points to @ complete and sweeping victory for the Democratic ticket headed by ex- United States Senator Harris. EE . Governor Hoch, of Kaneas, {s evi- dently trying to break into the Hob- son clase. Already some eastern ournals are figuring on a national klgsing ticket of Hobson and Hoch. I ¢ is said that euch a ticket would be popular with the ladies and would therefore command a strong support throughout the length and breadth ef.the land. Hobson’s record has landed him the nomiz ° | fs Tribune is supporting Hales Huckeby bas long been alli REPUBLICAN HARMONY. There are two candidates in Bates county for the Republican nomina- tion for Congress: W. O. Atkeson, lof Butler, and J. Ro Hates, of Rich | Hil; It is chargea shat Mr. Hales is backed by the Federa! otticeholders; that this was the seauctive piuro held out that Induced hiin to desert his loug bine friend Del Welton and give his endorsement, with all the weight of presidentiai elector, to Clark Wix That at the time Martin, of Rich Hil', and Rodes, of EiDorado, wer promised-something « qually as good Atkeson espoused the cause of the county organiztion, as representcd by Fox, chairman of the county com- mittee. Tue two Republican papers at Butler are supporting the claims of Atkeson, while Huckeby’s Rich ed with the Federal officeholder's crowd, and in the Inst Republican convention made a ringing speech anent the rural delegates who were clamoring for the scalps of the Fed eral crowd. Huckeby is one of those writers who “dips his trenchent pen in gall” when he goes after bis enemies The last issue of his Trib- une has the following caustic com mente on some of Hales’ detractors: “When we assiated in the canvas of Bates county in 1880, P. H. Hol- comb, then postmaster at Butler, was the target at which all theshafte of evonomed political oe were di- rected. Then came Col. Wheeler’s widowed daughter. She wassucceed- ed by O. D. Austin, and then came Dell Welton. Each in his turn has been the sine qua-non of political trikeery and the high muck-a muck of midnight plottings and perpetual official blather-skiting.” The Record, in answer to the above, intimates that Huckeby was drunk when he thus sailed into the exes. Thue “Harmony” is writ high above the Republican “Hash House” in Bates county, while each fellow carries his ready blade up his sleeve, to use it ata moment’s notice when the other fellow is caught off his guard, eres The Republican county committee has issued @ call for a county con- vention to send delegates to the va- nous state and district conventions for Saturday, May 19th, and sug: gests that the township conventions be held on May 12th, G. A. Delameter, chairman of Osage, issued his callfor his township convention May 5th. The Record says: “It there are two or three Republi- cans in Rich Hi who desire “a square deal” let them meet on Satur- day, the 12th; select the 28 delegates to the county convention regularly and they will be admitted. The political tricketers who take undue advantage will get what is coming to them when the timecomes. We want peace! We want harmony! but it must be a “square deal” and the honest elment of the Republican par- ty will see that we have it.” The Osceola Democrat goes after them in this way: “A letter men- tloning a certain gentleman as good me terial out of which to make a can- didate has been recelved at this of- fice, We consider !t as the quint- essence of gall, inasmuch as neither ‘ the name of the writer nor the party “boosted” appears on the subscrip- tion list of the Democrat. We are ready to do our {share, and then some, toward the election of the Democratic ticket, but to ask our assistance in boosting’ for office a man too stingy toftake:’a county newspaper {s carrying],things to a point where the line has been [drawn and all beyond {fs dead stuff.” The next Missouri legislature will be urged to eo amend the law with reference to the appointment and service of members of theState Board able salary in payment for{the time they actually and necessarily devote to the performance of the duties im- posed on them by law. The very best, most intelligent, progressive and successful farmers in the state should be placed on this Board— they each have extensive interests of their own and it is neither just, busi- ness or common sense to require them to donate their time and ser- vices—as they do now—to the state, The Ruraliat. .
