New Orleans, Aug. 14.—With nearly one half of August gone and with total deaths since July 13, one month, of only 154, an average of five a day, the marine hospital service authorities Monday began the second week of their fight against the yellow fever. In spite of all appeals that have been made by the press and the federal authorities, there is still suppression of cases. One tnstance is that of a daughter of a well known lawyer. She is said to have had a typical case and to have been treated only by a nearby druggist When discovered by a doc- tor, her condition was hepeless, Sun day she dled. The conseqeuence is that steps are to be taken to compet druggists to make a prompt report of all cases of fllness that come under their observation. The Southera Pacifle has taken steps to meet the charge made some time since that people were skipping into Texas on freight trains. Deputy SheriYs have been put on all such trains with in- structions to eject any one found rid- ing on them. The federal authorities Nave begun the room to room inspection of the whole city, Tht bas already been done in the ortginally Infected area but it is now being down in every wara and it is expected to turn up every concealed case of fever that exists The second month of the fight against yellow fever in New Orle began Monday with reports of new cass at noon indicating that the fie- ures for Monday would easily approxi- mate those of Sunday There were 12 deaths Sunday, a 'Neht excess over the figures fur the prececding few days but this increase is to be expected ow- ing to the large number of cases re- ported for the past five days.
