SIX FEET OF HAIL. Storm Did Great Damage In North Vernon. Nevada Post. Constable J. H. Pettit, of Metz, was in town Wednesday. He stated to a Post man that the country be- tween Anthony Sartoris, in Vernon county, and Hume, was badly dam- aged by Monday alternoon’s bail storm. North of Sartoris, hail washed into @ gully to the depth of six feet and two feet of hajl was still In the drift Tuesday afternoon. Hail drifted on Mr. Sartoris’ porch two feet deep and was still there Tuesday morning until ewept off by Mr. Jartoris. Along the path of the storm, corn, wheat and the grass were de- stroyed, belng beaten into the ground by the terrific tall of hail. Band of Moro Outlaws Gone. Manila, May 20.—General Leonard Wood has exterminated the band of outlaws led by Datto Pala on the island of Jolo. The American troops killed 100 of his band and destroyed his fort. Subsequently the troops surrounded and killed a subordinate datto and twenty-four outlaws. The Americans lost nine killed and twenty-one wounded. The following list of killed has been reported by General Wood in addition to those reported May 17 i; Samuel Weaver,Company G, Twenty: second infantry; Elick Howell, Com- pany B, Twenty-second infantry; Daniel Newport,Company F, Twenty second infaatry; Early E. Paris, May 20.—General Porter, retiring American ‘ambassador, was given @ notable farewell banquet to- night which, for eumptuousness of of appointments and distinguished character of guests present, has not been exceeded by anything of the kind held in recent years in Paris. A letter from Secretary Hay, in which he paid tribute to General Porter’s britiant career, was read. The speech of Porter brought out a tremenduous ovation, the entire as- semblage rising and cheering. Henry W. Cliff Brown kicked a pet dog belong- ing to Ollie Brown, the latter was fatally wounded and died in St. Joseph's hospital at 3:45 oclock. Cliff Brown is at the central police station, accused of murder. Ollie Brown, no relation to the al- leged slayer, was stabbed in the abdomen at Eighth and Olive streets at 1:45 o'clock, The stabbing was done with a longbladed pocket knite, | which Brown hid in a pile of bricks| after the crime.
