Cireuit Attorney Folk has turned Over to the State Committee the fol- lowing letter from Fhomas Harmon, one of the oldest and most respected citizens of Eldorado Springs, show- And I believe all the balance of the honest men in the Republican party should do likewise. No Republican with common information can be lieve fora single moment that the Republican party can carry Missouri without De mocratie votes, and when my party has to depend on “boodle Democrats” to secure the election of Mr. Walbridge, I think it ishigh time for honest Republicans to crawl out of such a “band wagon.” After I heard your speech at this place I extended to you my hand and said: “I am glad of theopportunity of shaking hands with an honest man, who fs a candidate for Gover- nor.” Of course, you did not know me at the time, as you were then surrounded by admiring friends of both parties. Republican newepapers and Republican politicians may say what they please in regard to your speech and audience at this place, but I know what I say to be a fact that I never saw a larger audience nor better attention to a political speech since the founding of this little city than was given to you. I think you should be, and will be, elected Governor by a very largema- jority, and hope you may live and be successful in fully carrying out the great reform you have so admirably commenced. I am, very truly, Tuomas Harmon, A Boy’s Wild Ride for Lite. With family around expecting him to die, and a son riding 18 miles to get Dr. King’s New Tassoveey for Consumption, Coughs and Colds, W. Trial bot- tles at Frank T. Clay’s drug store. Mew York, Sept. 25.—After mak- ing a careful study of political con- ditions throughout the country, for- mer Senator James K. Jones, who was for eight years chairman of the Democratic National Committee, predicts victory for his party. A month ago Mr. Jones was much less optimistic in his view than many other Democrats, and his present features of the campaign, and shows ina forceful manner the aggressive cunvass which fa being waged by the party all over the country. “The nomination of Judge D. Cady Herrick for Governor ot New York is regarded as guaranteeing the great est state in the Union to the Demoe racy. Judge Robertson, Democratic candidate for Governor in Connecti cut, is known to be a very strong candidate, and his election is looked for. “In the Middle West the Democracy is also putting its best foot forward, and excellent nominations have been made in states further west.” Negro Shoots White Men and Eludes Angry Posse. Cairo, UL, Sept. 25.—Ed Davis and Ed Parks, two prominent citizens of Charleston, Mo., were shot and per- haps fatally wounded by a negro at that place last night. The negro was employed at the Ocean Wave, which was a part of a street fair that has been at Charles- ton for the last week. The negro shot Parks above the right eye and Davis in the right side, the bullet entering the lung. The hegro escaped to the woods, Within a few minutes after the shooting the streets of Charleston were filled with citizens with shot- guns, revolvers and ropes, in search of the negro. Posses were formed and the night was spent in searching for him. The balance of the negroesemploy- ed at the Ocean Wave were placed in jailfor safe keeping, as there was talk of lynching them, the people being greatly exercised, and the of- ficials feared for the safety of the ‘oes. The name of the negro who did the shooting could not be learned. A diligent search is being made for him and further trouble is looked for. fair yesterday six pumpkins grown on one vine, The smallest measured 5k fect in circumference and the larg- est 6 feet 2 inches.
