Hayes and granddaughter of Jefferson Davis, president of the southern confederacy, has beer mar- ried here to Dr. Gerald B. Webb, a physician. Mrs. W. J. Graves was killed in runaway on the outskirts of Joplin Friday evening. She had been in Joplin attending a circus and wason her way home, when the horse be- came frightened and ran away. In jumping from the carriage Mrs, Graves broke her neck. Mrs. Mary Searfus, an old, highly respected and valued citizen, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs, B, A, Gough, in Summit township, on Thursday last. Interment was made in Elliott grave yard south of Butler on Friday. Mrs. Searfus was a good woman and had many friends. She was a sister of John D. Woody, of Charlotte township. Robert Womack, discoverer of the famous Cripple Creek, which has yielded more than $150,000,000, is reported to be dying in a Colorado Springs Sanitarium. He did not benefit by his discovery, it is said, and for several years has been a street laborer in that city. He is penniless. Ollie Morris, who has been an effi- cient and faithful employe of this office for several years, left the first of the week to accept a position at Neosho, Mo.
