BULLFIGHTER MEETS DEATH IN ARENA Cuckoo, Famous Matador, Gored as He Was Slaying His Fourth Animal. El Paso, Tex., March 20.—Cuckoo, celebrated in Mexico as a matador met a tragic deathin the arena at Juarez this afternoon while endeav- oring to plunge his sword into a dying bull. Several thousand persons saw the bloody spectacle and many Ameri- can women were overcome. Cuckoo had gained his reputation by his nimbleness and splendid work with the sword, but today when he thrust the weapon into the fourth bull the aniusal refused to die quickly and sinking to his knees, was slowly bleeding to death. The matador withdrew the sword, which had been buried to the hilt, and bending over the bull endeavored to dispatch him Mastang Liniment penetrates to the very bone. MEXICAN limbers up Stiff Joints. Detroit, Mich., March 25,—From all over lower Michigan to-day comes reports of floods after last night's severe rainstorm that have caused losses that will reach into hundreds of thousands of dollars. Rivers everywhere are greatly swollen and the creeks are taking on the proportions of rivers, Severe damage is reported from along the Grand River, The Kala- mazoo and St. Joseph rivers are out of their banks, the Flint river is flooding the cities along its banks and a serious flood is threatened by the Saginaw river. Dams and bridges have gone down along all of the streams, Great dam- age has been done at Grand Rapids, quickly by driving the point of the blade into the beast’s brain, The bull at’ this critical moment raised up quickly and tossed the matador aloft, tearing @ great hole in his side and administering a mor- tal wound. Cuckoo fell to the ground and was trampled upon. He was dying when Kalamazoo, Battle Creek and Lan- sing. .
