The two young bandits, neither of whom is over 21 years old, together with their companion, Emil Roeski, who is older, were captured near Liver- pool, Ind., to-day after a fight against policemen, railroad detec- tives, railroad laborers and farmers. One man was killed, another mortal- ly wounded and all three of the young bandits were wounded, but not seriously. THE THREE CRIMINALS WOUNDED, Neidermeier was wounded in the hand by bird shot. VanDine was similarly injured and sustained in addition a flesh wound in the left thigh. Roeski was shot in the right hip. His wound is the most danger- ous of any inflicted upon the three men, but was not sufficient to pre- vent him from traveling a long dis- tance after receiving it. ‘The three men were wanted by the police for complicity in the murders in the car barns of the Chicago City Railway company, August 30, when two mer were killed, a third danger ously wounded and $2,250 stolen from the company. Gustave Marx who Saturday night murdered Officer John Quinn when the policeman endeavored to place him under arrest, confessed that he, in company with the three men, had committed the crimes in the car Young Man Shoots His Sweet- heart After a Lovers’ Quarrel. SAYS IT WAS ACCIDENTAL. Aurera, Mo., Nov. 2¢.—Miss Maud Kennedy, one of the handsomest and most popular young women in Stone county, is lying at the point of death at her home at Galena as the result of a shot from a revolver in the hands of her lover, Grover Scott. Scott claims that the shooting was accidental, but itis an unfortunate circumstauce for him that the shoot- ing followed a lovers’ quarrel and was at the home of Miss Kennedy. The young woman was struck in the abdomen with a38-caliber bullet and is not expected to live. She has not recovered sufficiently to make any etatement concerning the affair, but Scott claims that, as a result of @ disagreement, she asked him to return her letters. In order that he might see her and patch up the quar- rel he took them himeelf. He took from his pocket a 38-cali- ber revolver and removed the shells He then endeavored to talk to Mise Kennedy, but she refused to talk. Scott started to leave the room, and placing one shell in his revolver ask- ed her to look around for a moment. At that moment the shot was fired accidentally, This is Scott’s version of the affair. Frenzel, in 1891, suggested that protective anti-ferments are secreted by living tissues. In some late experiments M. Weinland, a French physiologist, sought to digest fibrine in trypsine or pepsin after first adding a little juice from intestinal worms, but the ferment had no effect upon the fibrine in the presence of the anti-ferment juice. It is thus proven that the juice secreted by and impreg- nating living tissues—instead of the tissues themselves—resist digestion. connected with the return of Mor- row to the capital was the receipt of a telegram from Mr. and Mrs. W K.
