At Nevada on Monday the final crisis came when Younger and James withdrew from the show and brought suit against the man- agement and the latter retaliated by having Younger arrested on a charge of embezzlement, based on the fact that the treasurer had turned over about $5,000 to Younger, which he held pending the settlement between them, The people who are disposed to be friendly toward Younger and James, have always been dissatisfied with their showing themselves in this way and are glad it is disbanded. The most important practical in- ternal improvements of a county, which appeals directly to the people are good bridges. That the present county court is bendingevery energy to satisfy the demands of the public in this matter is evidenced by the splendid showing of the following re- port of bridge work from Feb’y 1st 1908, to date, as kindly furnished us by Bridge Commissioner, R. BUTLER, MISSOURI, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 1903. COLE YOUNGER ARRESTED. A Charge of Embezzlement a Result of a Quarrel. Nevada, Mo., Sept. 21.—The James- Younger Wild West show is appar- ently upon the eve of dissolution. The management has secured the ar- rest of Cole Younger, his nephew, H. Y. Hall, and F. G. Lindenfelder, charging them with theembezzlement of $6,000. This action followed suite filed against the show by Younger for $25,000 and James for $4,800. The plaintiffs say they were damaged in these sums by thefailure of the real owners to equip the show according to contract and by the re- fusal to drive away the grafters, Both James and Younger say there is absolutely nothing in theembezzle- ment charge and speak of it as a purely retaliatory policy. .They have given out the following statements for publication; We have severed all connection with the James-Younger Wild West show. The managements were duly notified to choose between grafters and us. They refuse to eliminate the grafters, hence we refuse to allow our names to be used with a thieving Frank JAMES, CoLe YouNGER. “For twenty-five years we have lived exemplary lives and never shall associate ourselves with thieves or afters. We are willing to die in a righteous cause, but no man shall rob or graft if we can prevent outfit. it. “When I started this aggregation Chief of Police O’Connor, of St. Paul, Mion., gave me careful instructions to fight every possible suspicion of a graft, to run nothing but a clean show, andI am glad to say | have followed his instructions faithfully Younger never wanted to go with the show at all; his desire was to place himeelf on the higher plane of the lecture platform, had not the state forbid it.
