Governor Dockery had a narrow escapefrom being struck by lightning while asleep in the man-ion during the recent storm which visited the city Governor Dockery was sound asleep when the storm was raging. Suddenly a vivid flash, followed in- stantly by a resounding roar, occur- red. Governor Dockery was awaken- ed and sprang from the bed, experi- encing a numbness, as he did sofrom the effects of the lightning. He thought for a moment that the man- sion had been struck by the bolt, but | could find no evidence of it. In the morning it was found that the light- ning had struck an elm tree in the mansion yard at the corner of the | building, where the Governor slept. Idaho Springs, Col., August 11.— Sheriff Sanerg this morning arrested eighty-three of the most prominent citizens of this city who are members of the Citizens’ Protective league on criminal warrants sworn out by the Western Federation of Miners for the arrest and deporting of eighteen un- ion miners immediatly after the dyn- amiting of the transformer house at the Suu and Moon mine. The war- rants were issued on the order of Dis- trict Judge Owens of Leadville, whois now holding court at Georgetown. The court last evening also issued an {njunction restraining the members of the league from in any way inter- fering with theeighteen men run out of town, Among the men arrested are Mayor Riley, Mayor pro tem Moscript, mem- bers of the city council, the coroner, president of the First National Bank and many others. All were taken to Georgetown this moning. Physician and Druggists. Ford & Sturgeon, a prominent drug firm at Rocky HillStation, Ky., writes: “We were requested by Dr. G. B. Snigley to send for Herbine for the benefit of our customers. We ordered three dozen in December, and Arkansan Deserts His Dying Brother Colorado Springs, Colo., August 10. —Curt Riley, 24 years old, was dis- covered yesterday afternoon in a dy- ing condition by tourists on their way to the top of Pike's peak. The man was found under a canvas-coy- ered wagon at @ point midway be- tween the Half-Way house and Mani tou. Riley had been deserted by his brother, and left on the mountain side to die. When discovered Riley had a blanket over him, but was without either food or water, and was nearly dead from starvation as well as disease. Riley was brought here a week ago from Arkansas by his brother, who had taken him to the spot where he was found, and, af- ter remaining with him for two or three days, deliberately deserted him. The tourists immediately reported to county physician, H. L. Richaid son, who states that as a result of the unfortunate man’s exposure, he will not live more than a few days. Carthage, Aug. 10.—Carthage peo- ple have subscribed $100 000 cash to the capital stock of the Carthage Cotton Mills Company, being organ- ized at this place by Witten McDon- ald. This insures the erection of the plant. The mills will haveacapacity of 10,000 spindles and 240 looms, and will manufacture fabrics suited tothe general needs of the South- western markets. we ar: glad to say, Herbine has giv- en such great satisfaction that we have duplicated this order three times, and to-day we gave yoursales- man another order.
