Circuit Attorney Folk Hopes to Indict Capitalists Behind "Transit Law. Republic, 3rd. Cirenit Attorney Folk hasinforma- tion which may lead to the indict- ment of Eastern capitalists for brib- ery in connection with the Transit bill, which was passed by the General Assembly in 1899. The statute of limitations prevents the prosecution of those person living in Missouri who are alleged to have st been connected with the deal, but E those living in New York are not protected. It is understood that such indict- ments would have to be found by i the Cole County Grandjury, as ¥ the deal was made at Jefferson City. Should the indictments be voted, the whole boodle story would doubt less come out for the first time. Several capitalists in New York were interested in the bill which made possible the consolidation of the atreet-car lines in St. Louis, save the Suburban, and it is reported that hey authorized the expenditure of $150,000 to obtain the desired auth- ority to consummate the deal. Hopkinaville, Ky., July 1.—Young- er Watkins, a planter, was shot and instautly kilied at the home of his brother’ Henry Watkins, near Tren- ton, by Burt Garth,last evening The trouble was over a woman with whom both men were inlove. Several days ago they quarreled, when Garth struck Younger over the head with the butt of a pistol. The latter had & warrant sworn out for Garth’s ar- rest. Hearing this, Garth went in search of Younger Watkins yester- day. The three were all armed when they met. The Watkins brothers emptied their guns without effect, when Garth fired on his rival, killing him. Garth then escaped. Governor Dockery Names Board of Osteopathy. Jefferson City, Mo., July 1.—Gov- ernor Dockery this morning announ- ced the names of the gentlemen who are to compose the state board of Osteopathy registration and ex. amination, created by the recent session of the legislature, as follows: J. H. Crenshaw of St. Louis, C. E Still of Kirksville, A. L. McKenzie of Kansas City, William F. Traughber of Centralia, Charles E. Box of Platteburg. Under the provisions of the law the fires meeting of the board, at which it will be organized, is to be held in this city the second Tuesday in July. Russia Speaks Again. Henry Clark, the youngest son of John E. Clark, had lots of fun yesterday shooting his toy pistol which shoots blank cartridges. But along in the afternoon he came to grief. Selalia, Mo., July 1—Edgar Perey = | Ford, a postal clerk, running over Denison and one of the most promi- nent young republican politicians in this part of the state, was found dead in his bed this morning, death result- ing presumably from heart disease. Ford was a native of Ohio 33 years old, and leaves a wife and young son. He served for four years as deputy county clerk of Pettis county and was then appointed United States storekeeper and gauger at Southwest City, Mo., which position he resigned two years ago to become @ postal clerk.
