The congresssional convention at Clinton Tuesday re-nominated Hon. D. A. DeArmond by acclamation with much enthusiasm. Strong resolutions endorsing his course in Congress were adopted, which we will publish next week, Mr. DeArmond was placed in nomination by Lon, Diekinsern; of Henry, who paid a glowing tribute to our brilliant and distinguished Congressman. Warden, Wooldridge, of the Mis- souri state penitentiary, refused Sat- urday afternoon to receive a carload of beef from the Cudahy Packing company, because the meat wassour and the entire lot was shipped back to the company. The warden stated that the sour beef was due to the dilapidated condition of the car in which it was shipped. The car was old and the temperature could not be kept below 50 degrees above zero. The warden stated also that a car of heef'in a similar condition was deliy- ered at the penitentiary last week and was refused and sent back tothe company. It was not bad meat that caused some of the prisoners to re- volt, but it was caused by an extra task put on them in one of the shoe shops.—Warrensburg Journal-Demo- erat. Rs: Ever Held in Butler. De Soto, Mo., June 15.—Three pleasure seekers from this city, were drowned in Big river at Morse’s mill, thissafternoon. The dead are: Miss Anpie Ogle, Arthur Scott and Tom Maness. The party left hereearly this morn- ing to attend a basket dinner and baptizing at Morse’s Mill, fifteen milesfrom De Soto. After dinner Migs Ogle and Arthur Scott went out on the river in a skiff. Insonfe man- ner they overturned the skiffin water twenty feet deep above the mill dam. Scott's head struck the skiff as he came up and he sank again, — Tom and Charlie Maness, who saw the accident, swam to their rescue }- and tried to lift the girlinto the skiff. Arrested on Release From Asylum. St. Joseph, Mo., June 15.—George Bray was released from the state hospital for the insane No. 2 to-day and immediately was arrested by deputy sheriff McUonnell, of Ray county, on the charge of forgery.
