Joplin, Mo., Dec. 20.—A sensational sirooting occurred at Byersvillle, a Joplin suburb, this evening in which William De Atley fatally shot Fred Robertson. Six months ago DeAtleys sister eloped with a man named Hed- rick. Fred Robertson, a boarder at DeAtley’s home had been attentive to the girl. DeAtley ordered him to changed his boarding house. He moved but continued his attentions to Mrs. Hedrick until his persecution became unbearable, then the girl told her brother, William DeAtley. Rob- ertson threatened to kill DeAtley if he caused any trouble. Both of the young men areminers. This evening while returning from their work at different mines, they met on the out- akirts of Joplin and Rabertson, who was much larger than DeAtley, ad- ministered a terrible beating to the latter. DeAtley hurried home, gota pistol and overtaking Robertson, fired five shots at him withouteffect. Then he returned home, reloaded his pistol and went to Robertson’s boarding house in Byersville, and called Rob- ertson to the door. When he saw Robertson approach, DeAtley fired through the glass door, shooting him in the scomach, inflicting a mortal wound. Robertson's home was at Milo, Ia. Harrell, who is equally well known, four times in a crowded elevator in the North Texas building. Harrell died later at his home.
