DESERVING OF PARTY CONSIDERA-| Roads and Public TION. Pierce Hackett made us a pleasant | visit while in the city the last of the week. Mr. Hackett isan old time Jeffersonian democrat. A few years ago he made up his mind that the democratic party was fast slipping its moorings on the money question. Togethor with a number of consci-| entious democrats he allied himself with the party whose platform on that question conformed nearest to his own ideas. When the Chicago platform was adopted he came back and supported Mr. Bryan on that ticket. This year he found the con- ditions unchanged. The republican party standing for the gold standard | and the democrats battling to re- establish silver in its old place of one of the monies of our government. He did not hesitate to make the choice and came cut square for the democratic ticket and did effective work for the cause. We hold that a man has a perfect right to change his political affiliations on a great principle and no fault ould be found with him when those causes are obliterated and he wishes to return, but the right hand cf fellow- ship should be given him What is said of Mr. Hackett ap- plies with equal force to Messrs. Carroll, Wolfe, Wells, and all those gentlemen who assistedin upholding | @ great principle by voting the democratic ticket this time. Those gentlemen who formerly afiiliated with the republican party and changed their political faith on the great principles at stake are deserv ing of every consideration the demo-| cratic party can g —_ The Bates county democratic cam- paign committee deserve the thanks of the party for its splendid services exemplified by the | sults Never in the political history | magnificent re-| GOOD ROADS CONVENTION.
