So far as the general welfare of the people are concerned the selec tion of eompitent men for county judges is of more importance than the incumbents of any other office. On them depends the advancement and upbuilding of the county. To them is entrusted the expenditure of some $20,000 of the people's money. To accomplish the most good for their constituents generally, without prejudice or partiality, is a problem which confronts a member of the county court daily. To obtain a beneficial solution it is required that the judges be men of sound busi- ness judgement, of sterling integrity and who have the public welfare at heart. Last week the Lexington Presby- ian church held a very interesting session in this city begining Tuesday and ending Friday. The question is often asked, “What is the difference between Cumberland Presbyterians and the other Presbyterians?’ The Stated Clerk of the Presbytery, Rev. S. Finis King, has prepared the follow- ing statement in auswer to the above question: “The organization of the Cum- berland Presbyterian church was a protest against the doctrin of election and foreordination as taught in the confession of faith of the Presby- terian church. The doctrin of that church was then, and is yet, that by the decree of “God for the manifes- tationof his glory, seme men and angels are predestinated unto ever lasting life, and others foreordained to everlasting death, and the num- ber of angels and men thus _predes- tinated and foreordained are particce larly amd unchangeably designed; and their number is so certain and definite that it caunot be either in- creased or diminished.” This is fatality. From it we dissent and aay, “The atonement was made for all mankind; salvation is possible te all, and that wHosozveR wILt can be saved.” There is therefore a dis- tinctive difference between the Pres byterian and Cumberland Presby- terian church. One holds to the doctrin of a Limirep the other an UNLIMITED atonement. While the Bible says, “WHOSOEVER WILL MAY come,” we shall not feel authorized to apologize for the existence of our church, nor cease to preach its un limited doctrin of salvation. In 1879 the Presbytery undertook to establish a church in Kansas City. A lot was purchased and a building was erected. Rev. J. E. Sharp, now deceased, was missionary pastor for abeut six years. After an interval, Rev. B. P. Fullertot was chesen as pastor in 1879. His energy and en- thusiasm at once inspired the Pres- bytery to undertake large things and as a result the beautiful church, cor. 13th and Oak sts. was dedicated free of debt, Oct. 7th, 1897. The proceedings are too elaborate to be published in full in our col- umna, and will be published by the Presbytery and distributed among the members. Suffice it to say that a large number of the most promi nent and talented ministers of this splendid church were in attendance and much good will result to that denomination and to the Christian religion.
