A Former Butler Girl Falls Heir to a Fortune. Sedalia, Mo., Feb. 9 —Mrs. Lucille Morris, traveling representative of the Western Library Company, of Omaha, Neb, who is making her headquarters in Sedalia, received in- formation through her attorneys on Monday that the efforts of the heirs of C. E. Allison to break his will, bequeathing all of his property, sckeduled at $150,000, to Mrs. Mor- ris, had been defeated and she would come intc possession of her fortune in a few weeks. Mrs. Morris is an authoress, well known to all who are interested in reform movements, having written “X Ray, a Thesis on Society Reform,” “Fifty Years of Natural Life” and “‘What We Should Do and What We Didn't Do.” Mrs. Morris’ fortune came to her in a rather romantic manner. While a girl in her teens she met C. E. Alli- son in Butler, Mo, and they fell in love with each other, but she was engaged at the time to marry L. Morris, a professor in the Central Business College of Sedalia. She kept her troth with the professor and they were married. Prof. Mor ris and wife did not live happily and Mrs. Morris secured a divorce from her husband in Illinois three years ago. Allison, Mrs. Morris’ former admirer, who was a mining pro moter and had become the owner of valuable gold mining ‘property in the State of Sonora, Mexico, met Mrs. Morris in Kansas City last summer, and after a short courtship they were to be married in the early fall. Allison, however, became sick before the day set for the wedding and in a few hours before his death he willed all his property to the woman who wa; to have become his wife. Relatives of Allison interposed, but the courts have decided that the property belongs to the divorced wife of Prof. Morris. Mrs. Morris will continue as traveling represen- tative of the Omaha company until September, when, acting upon the advice of Dr. Parkhurst of New York City, she will enter the lecture field, and her theme will be “Society Reform.” Two Men Kill Each Other, Coffeyville, Kan, Feb. 9—At 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon at No wata, twenty miles south of here,a serious shooting affray occurred. John Wilson, city marshal, undertook to arrest a man by name of Dwyer, a whisky peddler, who shot the mar- shal. The marshal in turn shot Dwyer. Both died in about fifteen mimutes. In what department!” “O, just in the :anke.” “How dic you get on there?” asked Depew. “I was first a fireman on an en- gine. That was a tough job, but it led up to the position of engineer. I made up my mind to get an educa tion. I siudied at night and titted myself for Union college, running all the time with my locomotive. I procured books and attended, as far as possible, the lectures and recita jtions. I kept up with my class, and on the day of graduation I left my Iccomotive, washed up, put on the gown and cap, delivered my thesis, and received my diploma, put the gown and cap in the closet, put on my working shirt, got on my engine and made my usual run that day.” “Then,” said Depew, I knew how he became Prof. Morris. It was simply by doing each duty faithfully as he came toit, and preparing for the next.” To Cure Constipation Forever. Take Cascarets Candy Cathartic. le or f J. fail to cure, druggists refund money. Strange Case of Richard Bye. Cedar Rapids, Ia, Feb. 9.—The commissioners of insanity haye issued an order for the commitment of Richard Bye to the insane asylum at Independence, and he will at once be taken to the institution. Bye was at one time a successful business man on Wall street, where he after- ward suffered losses. Later he was editor of a newspaper in Kentucky. He came to this city about three years ago, and for a time was afairly successful business man, being en- gaged in the life insurance business. To-day he is in a condition that puzzles the authorities and every- body else, who has investigated his case. Possessed of a tine education and of more than ordinary intelligence, Bye has remained in bed almost continuously for nearly a year, claiming that he was in the hands of the spirits, who have refused to release him from their power. A man six teet three inches in height and weighing 230 pounds when he went into his trance, he is to-day only a few peunds lighter and ap- parently enjoying the best of health. When your stomach begins to trouble you, it needs help. The help it needs, is to digest your food, and, until it gets it, you won't have any peace. Stomach trouble is very dis tressing, very obstinate, very dan gerous. Many of the most dangerous diseases begin with simple indiges- tion. The reason is that indigestion (not-digestion, not-nourishment),will weaken the system and allow disease germs to attack it. The antidote is Shaker Digestive Cordial, stengthen- ing, nourishing, curative. It cures indigestion and renews strength and health. It does this by strengthen ing the stomach, by helping it to digest your food. It nourishes you. Shaker Digestive Cordial is made of pure herbs, plants and wine, is per fectly harmless and will eertainly cure all stomach trouble. Sold by druggists, price 10c to $1 per bottle. S.
