Kansas City, Mo., Dacember 16.-— Jesse Wall,a young man who was well-known in Iadependence, killed himeelf a year ago because be could not merry the woman he loved She was Miss Leona Corder, the daugh- ter of Jackson Corder, one of the old cettlers cf the town. Mies Corder loved ycung Wall, and they were engaged, but because they were first cousins her parents would not con- sent to the marriage. After learning that Mies Corder’s parents would not sanction the marriage, Wall shot himself, willing bis property to his sweetheart. She was almost heart- broken, and for seme months it was feared that she might take her life. Her parents had always favored another suitor, J. Garland Webb, a wealthy young man of Lafayette county, who is connected with one of the oldest families in Lexington. They insisted upon the marriage when Mr. Webb asked for Miss Corder’s hand. He loved the girl, and pressed his suit until finally she consented, and the wedding was set for 8 o'clock last night, at the bride’s home in Independence. A houseful of guests and relatives came to the wedding. It was to have been an elaborate affair. As the hour for the ceremony approached Miss Corder became ill and finally hysterical. The tragic death of her former lover had preyed upon her mind till, upon the verge of the climax of her marriage to another, she broke down completely.
