Blanco will not be less cruel than Gen. Weyler. Besides the assassination of 1,500 Cubans in Santiago de Cuba in 1879, Gen. Blanco has on his record the wanton murder in 1880 of the gal- lant Cuban, Acadio Leite Vidal. Vidal was invited to dinner with the commander of the gunboat Al- mendares, in the port of Santiago de Cuba, on September 16 of that year. He accepted the invitation with his brother Francisco, and when they were at the table talking in the most friendly manner with the commander, several sa‘lore, arm- ed with knives and pistols, entered and attacked the Cuban brothers.
