Yesterday he was @ newspaper correspondent— to-day he is a hero. He had no other stimulus than the sense of duty. Karl Decker was a Washing tonian. He was employed for sever al years on the Washington bureau of the Baltimore American. More than a year ago he changed his allegiance to the New York Jour- nal and went to Cuba. One day, a month or so ago, he received orders to go back to Cuba and release Miss Cisneros. There was a grave chance that Mr. Decker might never come back to Amatica. His life was insured for $15,000, and an annuity of $40 a week for life was given to Mrs. Decker in case this should happen. He did not believe he could euc- ceed but be resolved then that the supreme effort of his life should be made In a few days he will be in Wash- ington again. Never Say Die.
